So the last few days she has been fluffed and me thinkiing she is cold, which Im sure she was, put on the heat lamp, but then I would see her with her wings spread, again thinking it was for balance and her mouth open. Im thinking this bird is gonna die. So when I picked her up to hand feed her, she seemed hot to the touch, even her mouth. It dawned on me that she may be too hot with the lamp. So I turned it off, partially covered the entire cage and fed her and let her be for the day in just the warm roon. This must have been more comfortable for her as this eve when I came home from work, she actually was trying to eat seed on her own, so I gave her a feeding of some seeds with grit in the crop with med water. I chased down this tubing and bulb today and used it to feed her tonite. I will have to practice a bit but I want her to have the seed as well as the formula so she has all the energy she can get to heal. It worked but was a bit sloppy as she is not a willing participant like the bubs in the video. Check out the vid and see how fast and cool it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEr-e-L6zbA&feature=youtube_gdata_player Also, I bit the bullet and ordered the PMV vaccine today. It will be here tomorrow. Im gonna inject all the birds as I dont want any of them to go thru what she is going thru. I hope she makes it, I feel so bad with this virus for her. She is getting vits and feed and grit and no stress. Just the bloody original illness and stress and moulting has taken a toll on her. I just want her to be strong and enjoy life and feel better. PISS ME OFFFFF!!! Read this.... Dropped wings or leg lameness are symptoms!!!! Here is the whole blurb.. So now I have given her a loading dose of Baytril AND switched the meds to Sulmet which I had her on in the first place but not long enough. I gave it for about 7 days and she was getting better then backslid and I was told it was the PMV but since she didnt have the head twists I spoke to another supplier who said it sounded more like salmonella, so I switched her to neox but wasnt doing much at all. So NOW I think I have her on the right meds after doing alot of research, I hope its not too late. Poor thing. I will keep posted on how she does, she must feel like absolute CRAP! Its all I can do now but wait. I hope I havent put her at risk for long. She looks like crap, no worse but no better. It says the sulmet works fast and in 2 to 3 days I should notice a diffference. I hope so... Paratyphoid / Salmonella - Paratyphoid in pigeons is an acute or chronic bacterial disease caused by Salmonella. The primary means of infection is through fecal contamination of feed, water or the environment. The devastating nature of this disease is impacted by the occurrence of asymptomatic carrier birds, which show no signs of illness and spread the disease to other birds. The organism is located in the intestine and may then intermittently shed through the feces. The disease in squabs causes high mortality. Symptoms are usually evident soon after hatching and appear as retarded growth, diarrhea and death. Necropsy often reveals an unabsorbed yolk sack in addition to typical intestinal lesions. Adult birds show a mild infection or may be completely without symptoms. Hens often develop infected ovaries and reproductive tract leading to transmission to the egg and newly hatched chicks. Dropped wings or leg lameness are symptoms. Another sign is joint swelling or "wing boils". Any stressful condition may make the symptoms apparent. Other symptoms may be respiratory distress, anemia or twisted neck or loss of balance. Also severe diarrhea and loss of weight. Paratyphoid should be treated for at least 21 days. |

Well as of this am, Dot seems to be a bit better, in as much as, she is not having the uncontrolled balance issues. If u touched her or she tried to move on her own, she would do this frantic flapping and or spasming. It was horrible, she was laid out flat. This am, her body is calmer and her carriage is much more upright and steady. I gave her a mega dose of baytril injected last nite and another dose this am. I also just gave her medicam for any pain or fever. She didnt feel as hot to me today in the beak or face and was not struggling for balance or spasms when I picked her up this time to feed. All good news and hopefully continuing in the right direction. |
