Man, those outdoor pigeons are getting way too comfortable and friendly. I walked in my bedroom and there were two pigeons INSIDE MY BEDROOM perched on the wooden blinds. I chased them back out. I took some photos of them returning and perched on my window. This morning I woke up because I heard some noise and felt like I was being watched. Sure enough, there was a pigeon on my widow staring inside at me. My bed is right next to the window. A weird thing in Vegas is a lot of homes don't have screens. I have one on the bird room because I don't want anyone flying OUT ... never occurred to me that I would have birds flying in.

Here is one photo I took (I have a couple more that I need to upload). This was taken this afternoon after I caught a couple of birds inside my bedroom. This is the scene I woke up to though I didn't take this one when I woke up.

Crazy, huh?

Ya, I had the same thing with mine, If I left the laundry room door open, in they came. Did u say Ducky sleeps in ur room, arent u worried he will go out the window? I would have a screen on every room in the house to keep bugs and critters out and my critters in :)

O M G... DA I hope you don't wake up one morning with 50 birds in there! No screens??? Thats the weirdest thing I've ever heard don't bugs fly in at night?

My friend told me once, many years ago, that she had been out drinking went into her bedroom and with the window open and no screen went to sleep. In the morning caught herself with her mouth wide open and ............... June bug, chewed up parts, in her mouth.
Yuck!

EWWWW that is so gross and yes it happens. I saw TWO tv shows where bugs went into peoples ears!!! Doc poured rubbing alcohol and flooded the ear canal to kill the bugs then tweezed them out, but ya, I reiterate, EWWWWWWWWWW

I guess a good portion of the homes here don't have screens is that we don't have the insect issue that more humid states have. It's something I've noticed as I drive around different neighborhoods -- houses don't have screens. I have commented that very thing to my friend since I'm not used to that.

Downstairs where the sun shines in, there are screens but they are the sun blocker type of screens.

When I went to Vietnam for vacation years ago, I stayed in a youth hostel. This one Australian guy woke up screaming, in a LOT of pain. A cockroach wormed its way into his ear canal and apparently this is extremely painful. Someone knew what to do and poured baby oil in his ear and the roach died so it was easy to pull out. You have no idea how wigged out I was.

Maryann, as to Ducky flying out the window in my bedroom, I'm not worried about that. He sleeps in the closet and the way he gets in is to turn sideways because the sliding door is almost shut and the only way he fits is to turn sideways. He can't get lift from the ground so he would have to make his way out of the closet, climb up on my bed and then fly off. After having him with me for 9 years, I've pretty much gotten to know how he reacts and taking off in the middle of the night is not something he's going to do. He's so used to different animals & birds around him that he's not even fazed in the least by them. In a way, I wish he would show some type of fear when it comes to dogs or other type of predatory animals. The only thing he is scared of is sticks.

All well and good, but I would still consider screens or closed windows. My buddy had a hawk follow his pigeons right into the coop and the hawk was sitting side by side roosting with them. That could happen to you lol. You are moving tho right? I am hoping ur new place has screens and protection for all the wild critters at the farm :)

No, not all the windows at the new place has screens. It really is a weird thing in Nevada that they don't put screens on all the windows. I've never seen anything like it. Since there are a lot of raptors out where I'll be moving, I'll make sure there are screens on the windows. I plan on screening in the front porch area and putting a cage out there for Ducky so he can get fresh air without me having to be out there with him and still be safe. I'll also be able to roll the budgie cage out there.

Thats great Tish. Do u remember the post I put on the Thylacine (tasmanian tiger), that got into the screen area and killed the galah?, not saying there are tigers where ur going lol but just noting that he wont be out there when ur NOT home right? I just want to say it so Im not assuming anything. I cant wait to see ur new setup, I am envious for sure. Live the dream chicky!!!
