A friend dropped by today. Ducky was on my shoulder when I walked her out to her car. I left the front door open (big mistake, LOL). Kosha walked out but was staying on the grass as I talked to my friend before she left. Anyway, she drove away and I started to walk in the house but Kosha had other ideas. I guess she thought it was time for a walk and by golly, she was going on a walk with our without me. I am standing there call her in and Ducky is getting ticked off that I am paying attention to Kosha and not her. Ducky is squawking while sitting on my should (ouch to my ears), Kosha is ignoring me and goes to the sidewalk and starts on her walk -- WITHOUT ME. I'm yelling by now for her to get back here, Ducky is screaming and I'm just getting ticked off at the whole situation. Now Kosha is getting pretty far down the sidewalk so I finally run into the house to get her leash and halter. I tried to get Ducky off of me but he was not having any part of that. He was going to stick with me -- he climbed down the middle of my back where I could not reach him. Now I don't have time to mess around because Kosha is out for her walk so I just decided to keep Ducky with me. I run outside (well, not really run becuase I have this bad kneee) and where was Kosha???? Shoot, I could not see her and I found out why. The area where we normally cross the street, she got that far down and crossed the street on her own and was contining her walk. FORTUNATELY I live on a very quiet street where there's not really any traffic except for people that live here. Being Thanksgiving, everyone was in their homes while I'm outside with a screaming bird and a pig that wants to take a walk. I rush across the street as fas as I can and call Kosha. She stops, looks at me and waits for me -- she saw the leash and harness. She stands there as I put it on her and Ducky decides to hang off my collar looking at me trying to get me to pay attention to him and not Kosha -- squawking the whole time. Now that I have Kosha under control, she continues up the sidewalk so I decided if she wants to go for a walk that bad, I'll take her. But I was steaming mad. We do the normal short walk and head back home. Kosha was a happy camper and I was all frazzled over this whole incident. |

Holy crap, that was stressful and funny to read at the same time. I would have kicked her pig butt all the way home man. I have done that with disobedient dogs. Man that would make me very mad too. Ducky part was hilarious, what a good bird. I am finding that angel aka pebbles which is a he for sure, has now started to get jealous of the budgie bubs and chicken babe. Every day now he makes his way to me and wants scritches, he has now even started to either fly to me, on me or right to whatever cage I am in front of at the time. He is too sweet. Today I bent over to get seed and both chicken and angel landed on my mid back and then crawled up to each of my shoulders as I stood back up. Too funny. |

Now that it's in the past, I can look back and see the humor of the situation. It is kind of funny, but at the time, it was nerve wracking. Kosha is sure one headstrong little pig. And that Ducky -- it's his bad habit of climbing down the middle of my back where I can't reach him. He does that when I go to put him down and he doesn't want to get off of me. Sometimes I just have to take off my shirt to get him off of me. |

For sure ... I would have been scared to death! Yes, it is funny after the fact though. I can tell a funny story about Eddie running off with the two big pit bulls. But as you can imagine IT WAS NOT FUNNY I was frantic out of my mind. Still makes me sick to think about them stopping and looking me dead in the eyes .... like don't even try to come off that porch lady.....thats what they said to me and I know it. Dogs can make their thoughts come thru loud and clear. Brrrrrrrrrr |

Oh my gosh, that would have scared the crap out of me. So what happened, did Eddie go play with them or did he come back to you right away? |

Let me just start by saying...Eddie is the kindest spirit in the world thats #1. Eddie trotted off with them a couple of houses down. I believe it was his very calm attitude that saved his life. After calling and calling he finally rounded the corner of the house in one piece. His next encounter was when we were on the deck and a little boy lost control of his pit and the pit ran up on the deck. Ed immediately rolled on his back belly up...the little boys eyes were as big as saucers and so were mine. The pit smelled him and then all of a sudden Ed jumped up like a ninja right into his face. Scared the holy hell out of the pit! At which time me and the boy flew into action and scooped the dogs up. The little boy started laughing in relief "thats one spunky little dog." The pits are baned from this neighborhood now. |

Pit bulls are very scary when it comes to other animals. Eddie knew what to do by rolling over like that -- he was showing the pitbull that he was being submissive! Good boy! |

Kosha is CRAZY. Just a little while ago, I let the dogs out and brought her upstairs. I put the baby gate up at the top of the stairs to keep her upstairs. I guess she did not want to be upstairs even though it is COLD outside. She went to the end of the hall and took off running towards the gate and slammed into it to try and knock it down. She did that several times and finally gave up. The hallway has wood flooring so it's slippery so she couldn't get a good grip on the floor which is good otherwise, she might have knocked it down and tumbled down the stairs. I'm going to have to find a more secure way of blocking so she can't get downstairs. Once she's bigger, she will probably be able to knock the gate down. Right now, she's in her bed pouting because she couldn't get down the stairs. I got to say, she is NOTHING like Tulip. Kosha is so unbelievably headstrong. I also have to cut back on her food because she's eating all the fallen date seeds that fall off the trees and she's put on quite a bit of weight. She's going to be ticked off at the cutback in her food. I'm going to start taking her on a LONG walk every day so as to work off some of that energy and to keep her weight under control. Tulip was so gentle and well mannered. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Kosha but I'm having to adjust my thinking. She's never going to be like Tulip -- she's her own personality. It's kind of funny now but I need to temper it down before she gets to be 100+ lbs. Oh, I just can't wait till she challenges me ... NOT. That's going to be some fight I can just tell. On the pig board that I belong to, there is a person who is a "Maryann" as far as pigs are concerned. She's a pig expert like Maryann is a bird expert. She said that since pigs bite and rip ears during their fight for dominance, I should pinch the top of her ear so it hurts. Kosha will understand that and it's not harmful. I'll have to think about that one but I just may do that if she gets out of control and won't listen. I'm already shoving her when she's doing something after I tell her no. As to Ducky, he's such a sweet bird. I can't tell you how much I love that bird. Yesterday, he got into a fight with Pippy. Sometimes I just can't believe Pippy. I was sitting on the couch and Ducky was walking across the entertainment center to get to his cage. I saw Pippy fly down and CHARGE Ducky from behind. Ducky turned around and snapped at Pippy and then turn around and continue towards his cage. Pippy, like a dumbnut did not back down and charged again. I was in so much shock over what I was witnessing that I was stunned into just sitting there -- I didn't immediately react I was paralized with shock. Pippy did it again and Ducky turned around and snapped at her. Finally I was able to react and jumped up and shooed Pippy away. What the heck is Pippy thinking????? Maryann???? What's going on with Pippy? Why would she go after a bird MUCH LARGER than herself and for what reason? |
