My new baby dfsw, Puff Puff. He was in with Niblet and Smurf which is attached to the parents cage. I saw him on the side of the cage asking to be let out. I noticed some blood on his foot, figured he got bit, put some quick stop on and put him in his cage for the nite. THANK GOD I went to check on him before bed and found him fluffed and his feet were very cold. He had gone to the floor of his cage to sleep as usual. When I checked on him, I found it blood soaked thru 8 layers of thick paper toweling. I'm sure he would have been dead by morning had I not checked.

I immediately gave a crop full of warm electrolytes to replace the blood loss, stopped the bleeding and washed him off and put him in my neck to keep warm and to make triple sure the bleeding had stopped this time. It has, he is all toasty warm, under a heat lamp, clean cage, no blood and not fluffed. Poor little monkey. He is a very sweet bird. He has a one hell of a tought start. First he came to me with a weepy eye and feeling sick, had to medicate, and then this. I hope that's the end of that!

Doing well this am, gave him another crop feed as he seemed a bit tired. He is active and preening now, no more blood either.

Jeeezzzzzzz....That looks like a lot of blood for a little bird. I hope I never see that..ever.

The bite must have been deep right? Can u see it? I mean when Sweet Pea had a cut foot

it never bled like that I put neo on it and it was healed in minutes (seemed like.) :ermm:

You must have been scared seeing that. Poor thing.

No, I can't even tell where the cut is, so I just powdered the entire foot and applied pressure. That's when I could feel how cold he was.

Ya, I had an instant pang of fear thinking it was too late. He seemed miserable, fluffed and cold. I think he was quite weak from blood loss. In a book I have, says they can only lose a few drops of blood safely, this was ALOT.
