Night fright for sure. She was in a cage alone when I noticed her spinning. I put her there because she was attacking smarty pants on her nest. About a week after being alone, I noticed her spinning with head down. At first I thought she was just looking in the cage below, but soon figured it out. |

Oh goodness...I forgot about night fright for a moment. I had that the other night. Noticed that Suki was trying to move from the side bars and couldn't. She had her nail caught in the sheet I use to cover the cage. I know .... time for a nail clip. But anyway I guess she was flapping and got all stirred up. |

Well good and bad news, update, this canary hen is PERFECTLY fine and healed from her brain injury, she is upright and normal and I caught her with nesting material in her beak yesterday. U would never know she sustained that injury! Now, I fine one of my young budgie hens with the same injury the other day, but a bit worse, she was flopping around the bottom of the cage, I heard the noise and went running. She was fine the night before, so I suspect thensame type of fright and has either ahead or neck injury. Her head is hanging down sideways alot. She is in her own cage attached to the flight so she thinks she is still part of the flock. I sm going to give her the same time to heal and hope for the best. She is eating and drinking well on her own but does the same spinning and hanging the head down, but from the side not the front. I wish they never had frights, but there is zip I xan do about it. They have a night lite, so ????? It is flutteer, she is sweet. I hope she is comfortable. She will be pampered till she recovers. If not, she will be pampered anyway for good. |

Maryann glad to hear the first is okay and so sorry to hear about it happening again. Night Frights are so terrible. I had read and heard about them but until Cappone had one I never really understood how horrible they are. I really thought he would die of a heart attack that night. I sure hope your "birdie" recovers as well as the first one did. Its so frustrating because other than a night light not really much you can do to prevent them. |

I have tried everything from putting lights on, but that freaks them out more, I've tried talking to them to no avail. The best is to do nothing and hope it stops soon. |

So far I've been able to talk them down and I pet their feet if they are hanging on the cage bars. If I can do that it kind of snaps them out of it. |

Wow, glad she's okay but sad that another one is injured. Those night frights are terrible -- I only experienced that once here and that's when I thought I lost Ethel. I have a small night light plugged in the electric outlet to give them some light without it being overwhelming. I don't know if it's helped or if they just haven't had anything to be scared of but If figured it can't hurt. |
