Thanks Cathy. I also think she's a cutie pie. Vi, yes, Kosha has that look as well. Tulip did too. Today Kosha is not so cute to me, in fact, I'm a bit peeved with her. I've been taking her to the park for a couple of weeks now. I take her in the car. She's been fine. She just sits there and oinks to her heart's content. Except for when we returned. She screamed bloody murder, tried to jump on me, just went berzerk. I have a headache with all that screaming. I finally had to pull over and tie her up to the seat so she wouldn't jump on my lap (which she did which is why I pulled over). I couldn't believe the temper tantrum she had because she wanted to stay at the park. I'm serious, she pitched a huge TEMPER TANTRUM, screaming and yelling. That pig has got a good set of lungs on her, I can vouch for that. I'm glad the park was not too far away so I didn't have to listen to that screaming for more than 10 minutes. Crazy pig. |

OMG lol, how horrible, will she grow out that or can she be trained not to do that, wow, I may have had thoughts of ditching her for that one!!!!! When did she stop? |

Oh trust me, I WILL train her not to do that. Next time I will smack her little bottom -- it will be unpleasant for her to do that. If it happens again, I will pull over and spank her. Pigs are very stubborn creatures. She was having a good time at the park and did not want to leave. And she let me know in no uncertain terms that she wanted to stay. Think that's bad -- wait until she's a bit older and tries to move up her status in the herd. I'm the head honcho right now and she will try and take my position. All pigs do that -- Tulip did. We will have a fight and I will have to knock her over. She may try once or twice after that and then she'll get the message that she's going to be number two. That little fight is still a few months away. As to when she stopped? When I got out of the car at home. I completely ignored her and walked into the house with her following me, moaning and groaning. She went upstairs and went to bed. I guess that temper tantrum exhausted her. You know what's going to be fun (NOT)? On Friday I have to quit feeding her at 7:00 p.m. When I wake up, she will expect breakfast pronto!!! It's not happening. In fact, I have to take her water away at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. She's going to be cranky as all get out with no food. And then I have to take her to the vet and drop her off for her spay. From the time I get up on Saturday morning, I will be dealing with one cranky pig, that's for sure. Hungry pigs are not fun to be around, LOL especially when she's used to getting her breakfast when I wake up. |

Tish....I know it wasn't ment to be funny but.........I laughed and laughed all day long just thinking about your situation with Kosha. Oh my gosh ..... I had tears in my eyes being an outsider looking at that scene. Especially when u got home and Kosha went up the stairs to bed. Oh my gosh .... ha ha ha At first I wasn't sure about what you ment about you and her getting in a fight but then I remembered Ed when he was new...he was sooo feisty. I asked the Vet about it (his name was Doctor Love) and he fit his name. Anyway he said to pick Ed up under his arms and let his hind legs dangle. Make him look you in the eyes, he won't want to ... he will look from side to side avoiding your eyes...but keep it up until he does. Well....it worked....Ed finally looked me in the eyes and I told him "I'm the mommy and YOU are the baby!" Sounds silly now but thats the way we "were" and together ever since. So anyway will you have to tip Kosha over and hold her down?????? |

Vi, the eye contact is a dominant thing, its actually the opposite of what the guy said, if he averts his gaze, it means he respects you and accepts you as leader, by forcing him to look in ur eyes would be a challenge from him to you. Better that he does avert and accept u as leader. I bet after u said that to him he averted again ![]() A hard stare from any dog is dangerous. Averting the gaze is a admission of submission, and desireable as an owner. Makes for a happier carefree dog.

The story of the pig and status and having to knock her over is funny for sure. I bet u win that one hahah. U gotta do what u gotta do to keep the peace for sure. So u have to act like an alpha pig to keep the peace and do what she understands, I like that. So when will u finally get to really enjoy her and not have to do any further training and status work? |

Well ur prob right. Thats been 18 years ago now....but it worked. This exercise was to get his ATTENTION and let him know in a nice way that you were the boss. I mean Ed was so easy and loving .... he was never really a challange (and thats fine with me.) I know about dogs staring you down....uhhhh thats not a good thing....I actually had that once and was VERY afraid.....glad there was a fence between us. |
