Here is a pic of her cage setup. She is suspended on a cardboard platform so she can be at their level. ![]() |

Na, I just checked, she seems to be going downhill, her respirations have changed. Seems like it is Gillian Barre syndrome as per my reading, seems like the paralysis is going upwards. They liken it to that ailment. So not really sure what the hell is causing this. I dont want her to suffer, will see how it goes. May have to euthenize. |

Cheeky just died now. I gave her one last feed and she just very calmly took her last few breaths in my hand, no twitching or anything. I was relieved for her. I took stock of my birds and the males seem super fine. They are noisy and no one is showing signs of illness. The hens seem ok, but Im not convinced yet that they are all fine. Keeping a close watch. I have 5 separatel birds in another cage. Two of the 5 I believe may be carriers of disease, they will stay segregated forever till they die. One is Cinny a sickly bird I got from Jack the breeder, she was a french moulter. Another is a hen yellowface hen I got from a lady, she has been sick from day one, regurgitating, but poops are perfect and have always been. Chopper is fluffy, I dont know why, but she is there and will stay till she either responds to meds or dies as well. The last one is a male spangle, the older of the two and crickets father. I will continue with meds and vits as necessary and see how it goes. They will NEVER rejoin the flock as I am worried one of those may have gotten the rest sick. |

I am so sorry to hear of Cheeky passing, though I am relived it was "calm" and that you were with her. I think your decision about the sickly birds is a good one. Hugs to you. I swear we all need a little happy healthy time. |

Cathy, I was initially horrified a few days ago when I saw her sick, I was having my own bloody night frights. Literally, those same panic attacks when my dog died, as soon as I woke I would have an adrenaline rush of fear and sweat. As I tried to save her, I realized she would probably die and when u see them suffering or not feeling well and u know the meds are not working, you are relieved for THEM. She was 3, I told my hubby that I am preparing myself for quite a few in the future to die of due to age. I have to steel myself for the inevitable. I am going to try my darnest to get a clutch or two out of a few pairs that I like. Hopefully they will stay healthy enought to oblige. Fiamma, Rascal and Baby Boy and Footsie. These are the only surviving siblings from the breeding of Candyman and Pineapple. Pineapple also died young and Candyman is still going strong for now. He has to be close to 5 years old. So I have lost 3 hen bubs from that clutch so far. ![]() Cheeky, Rascal, Fiamma and Footsie are my fav of that flock. |

Cathy, yes it is chopper the same bird, why she is fluffy, I dont know. She may just be stressed. I have to wait to see her poops in the am. I have her and the others under a heat ceramic lamp. When I read about the paralysis, it said that it is the same as Gillian Barre in humans and I was hoping it was not, but could see it creeping up her body. When I get them thru this giardia treatment, and they seem well enough, Im gonna let them be meds free for a week and then take a fecal for culture and ova and parasites to be sure I am not missing anything. Its only gonna be about 85 bucks. Well worth the price as I have most of the meds. Better not to guess. May be worth my while to do that once a year anyway to be sure. |
