Crazy Bird Lady

Here is the basic explanation of why you heat a bird when sick. As per one of my budgie books.

Gives off warmth that penetrates under the skin and stimulates circulation and metabolism. The blood vessels expand and waste products are eliminated more quickly. The rays also activate the immune system of the bird.

So, here we go AGAIN. I bought new lights that are rated for 150 watts as I kept blowing bulbs. The clip lite I had was only rated for 50 watts. HHardware wanted 16 bucks for the cord and socket alone and for 3 more bucks, from my local pet store I got the 150 rating with a much larger flange/hood taxes in.

I bought 3 of them AND one ceramic lamp. What did I go and do right away. BURN MY FRICKEN palm.
I waved my hand over the bulb but went too close and SOB it hurt. I'll take a pic of the new burn. What an idiot I am. I figured I had to get my hand close to feel the heat as it is not like a bulb but a ceramic burner.

Will take a pic of that as well. It alone was 48 bucks!! but I got it on sale for 32. Still, a bit rich for my blood but she assured me it would last WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY longer than a bulb, WITH the added benefit of not glowing lite into the birds eyes during the nite. Although, I read that the infrared lite at nite was good for a sick bird allowing it to forage for food and water. So, six o one. I use both.

By the way, if a bird is convulsing or has paralysis, it is advised NOT to use the infrared lite as they DONT want to speed up the blood flow and cause more problems. So if a bird has hit a wall or window and has any swelling, DO NOT use the red lite. :)
