They are cute. Mutations are a little bit weaker than normals but just barely. |

Having a hard time today trying to get them to eat. I tried again with the syringe but it is soooooooo difficult. When I use the brush they get so full of air and they feel full so they dont gape. It has been hell today. I had to fiddle with the heat so much. They are so fussy when eating that they brooder cools way down. They actually felt cold to the touch even tho the heat says 90. So now I will have to have a heat lamp ON when I feed them so they stay warm enough while being fed. This clutch is turning out to be a real chore. I removed the male today from the hen. I wont breed those two anymore. They make small sickly babies. They dont feed them. Total pain. I even tried to give them to Inchy day before yesterday, but they didnt feed them either. I guess I have to try to keep on trudging on. If they grow a tidge more, I can get the bloody canula in them good enough for a fill. If too cold, they wont gape at all and are lethargic, if too hot they toss and turn and throw themselves around so much that u cant get the brush in the gape anyway, when I try to feed one, the other smashes into it and the opportunity is lost to fill the mouth. A real pain in the ass. I dont know whay it is proving so difficult with these 3 compared to the other 3. |

No Cathy, Inchy is not helping out at this time. I have to get them big and strong enough to gape well enough for him to want to feed them. Normal gouldians would be vocalizing by day 3, these guys have said shyte!!!! |

Its been a hell of a nite. The bubs got slow crop, they would not gape at all, they would not feed, I had to take a risk and force the canula down their throats. I flushed the crops with warm water, upted the temp of the brooder a bit. Did this thru the nite 2 or 3 times. Thought for sure they would be all dead. This morn, two are gaping althought not with normal gusto. One is still quite lethargic, wont gape at all. I added some MORE benebac to their feed just now. I have probiotics in the actual formula and added some from the hagen brand vits as I had done with the clutch before. So the added benebac I hope does the trick. They arent showing infection or anything, just slow crop from yesterday. I added more acv to the formula based on a vets instruction. I can only hope that the two will survive. Not much hope for the one. I havent done anything different from the last clutch, so not sure why these ones are giving such a hard time. The good think is I am able to fill the crops right up with formula. I hope it all works out. THIS part for sure is stressful. |

Well so far the one hen seems to be feeding and emptying and normal. The mutation one is slowing down as well. I emptied the crop and gave medicated warm water only. I am going to give a next dose of alka seltzer as per instructions from a breeder that has treated tons of slow/sour crop and claims that within 6 to 12 hours that the crop will work normally. I will push liquids in between if it empties, if not, then it is done for. I will as a last ditch effort, do sub q fluids and nystatin in the crop if the alka seltzer doesnt work. Right now he has a mixture of amoxitex and nystatin in the crop. Fingers crossed, he is the mutation male. |

Thanks Pass, the second one died in my hands at 4pm. The only one left is the mutation yellow male. He looks plump enough and good color but not gaping strong. Seems a bit weak. I gave some formula in the water this time. Will see how it goes. I have done the nystatin and amoxitex as you had told me in the past with a tidge of acv. All I can do. |
