Ok Pass, got the pics of the gapes this am, what do u think of the chick bottom left, less pigment on mouth markings in and out. Pass I couldnt get a very clear gape as I didnt want to even waste one and not get the feed brush in there. I think u can tell well enough tho. ![]() ![]() |

VERY carefully lol. Actually I grab them by their back legs as I figure a bird can still perch with a bum leg if I damage it, but I dont like to pick them up by their wings as I want them to be able to fly when they grow up. As they get bigger, I can use my hands to roll them into my palm but for now, when so tiny, if you twitch you will squish them dead. I try to handle them as little as possible, I feed right in the nest with a LONG teeny weeny paint brush. Even when I have to change the bedding, I just roll them off the soiled ones and onto the new one. I will try to get a video clip or two of the procedure then. |

Thanks Vi. I gotta tell ya tho, this trio is proving more difficult to feed. They are 4 days old today and still small. They are undersized for the normals. I can usually by day 3 start crop feeding with the canulas but they are too small. I tried and cannot get the canula past the throat and into the crop. So it is still the paint brush which makes it harder to get the crops filled as they dont gape long enough, they get tired and I have to try to do the feedings in stages. |
