Well, you remember my 3 Gouldian bubs that fledged a few days ago, well, as soon as they did, the parents stopped feeding the blue one "Violet" and they kept caring for the 2 silver ones. Violet kept calling to be fed all day and even followed the parents around screaming and yet they still refused to feed her. I had to leave for work, so i took violet out and put her in another cage with a pair of societies that are raising 3 of their own. Of course i was worried all day and when I came back I went to see and no bird was in the cage. i checked the nest and there was the two parents, their 3 bubs and violet all tucked in for the night. I checked and she was well fed Phewwww!!! What a relief. She's been with them for two days now and all is going well. I have a feeling if Violet was a female, she will help in feeding the 3 smaller societies bub when they fledge. |

Pass, dont DO that to me, lol. Can you please start that story with, violet is ok, but this is what happened. That was SO stressful to read, until the end. Im so glad those societies fed her. U know, I JUST read that either in that gouldian book or online that lots of mutations DONT get fed when out of the nest by the parents for whatever screwed up reason, one of them was the red eyes. Does violet have red eyes???? |

Sorry Ladies, I didn't mean to scare you. Violet looks the same, it will be months before she colors up. Maryann, She's just the odd one as the other two are white, so i guess this is what told the parents she's "different" and so they neglected her. |

Yup, you got it Pass, I suspect that what is different is not good in their eyes, I guess that is why mutations dont really exist in the wild. The odd one. If they wouldnt have fed, how long before she died?? In the future, r u able to give like at least one full crop feeding before work and when u get back and then feed at nite???? At her age, that may have sustained her till you got home no??? |

I fed her before I left, but my shift was 11 hours and I never turn on the lights in the birdroom after they settle in. Cause I usually have a few hens on their nests and I would never disturb them after dark. I just needed someone to take care of her cause I'm not around enough to hand feed, and the Societies did a great job. The male even sounded his alarm call today and flew directly next to her and tried to make her go back in the nest when I came too close.! He was protecting her!! Gotta love them those Societies, Lifesavers I tell you. |
