Ok so my hen Sparky, one of my original green bubs. I see her laying in the seed cup and think, how cute, maybe she wants to lay an egg. So I take a few pics. Not the first time I have seen my hens do that. Well after I walked back into the bird room, I see her trying hard to balance on the perch, almost laying on it. I pick her up and she tried to fly and land. She can fly fine but it seems she has broken something, maybe her pelvis or hip or ankle. Not sure what, but dont want to tweek anything examining. So I set her up in a small cage, no perches with a blanket lined with paper towel and all her feed and water on the floor. She can lay there and or prop herself up on it. I gave medicam of course and her poops are mint. So I will have to baby her for at least 10 days to 2 weeks or more. I hope whatever the hell happened, that it heals as close to normal as possible. There is the possiblity that she has a growth internally pressing on her nerve in her leg. I hope thats NOT it. She is a sweety in her own right. ![]() ![]() |

awwww ... this is so crappy. I'm sorry. She's in good hands with someone who loves her and knows what to do for her. |

Well I must watch that she can feed herself and make sure she has lots of rest and meds. The medicam is good for pain and inflammation, so hopefully whatever the hell happened will heal. |

She's a pretty little English Maryann. In your hands she will heal. Don't worry...you can only do your best. |

Vi, experience tells me if it is her hip or pelvis, all I can to is keep her comfy and quiet and she will heal. That is what they do with dogs. Surgery is way too risky, so they confine and medicate for pain but not too much, so they dont keep moving and keep the break from mending. I peaked in on her tonite and she is wedged her head and shoulders between the seed and water cup on the floor and is using it to lay on her chest/belly. She looks comfy. I hope she eats tomorrow. She didnt even crack one seed on her millet or feed. I gave her one hand feed this eve before bed. I hope she feels well enough to eat some in the morn. |

How in the heck would that happen? Was she in the flight? no couldn't be.. too cold. I better watch the "new guy" cause he has fallen from the top of the big cage. I mean I guess...I leave the room he's on top and then on the floor. On a good note...Pickles eyes are pretty bright and bigger than they were. yay!!! He still doesn't look like he used to though. He's like a dog with a big coat of fur and his head stilll looks stiff and slick to me. But still I know he feels better and he is such a sweet bird. I can see the difference in his eyes and actions. The very best one I have. I mean Herbert and Sherbert are the ones that give me kisses but even with that they are still .... just not the same. |

What do u mean stiff and slick??? Do his feathers look wet but are stiff and spikey when u touch it???? If so, post that. That means he is slinging mucous all over himself vomitting. Clarify what you mean by that k, thanks. |

No no no ....he is not slinging anything. No mucus. He is just fine ... but he doesn't look as soft as he used to. Maybe he is just getting older. Hold on let me take a look....well he is on his swing awww and ready to go sleepy. We are all past our bedtime. Time is soooo short after work I can't hardly do anything worth a fart. TTYL Vi |

Im glad to hear that. He looked good to me in the last few pics escaping onto the cables and stuff, he really looked great I hope he is done with it and it was just a harsh moult and because of his age, it took a toll on him. Does he still require the heat lamp????
