Maryann...I said that because when I first gave Green Bean that medicine it came out of her nose and I thought it was blood. When she died it looked like she choked on the same stuff it was on her face and on the paper. Just makes me sick. I guess I didn't cause it..but she must have been FULL of infection. Sometimes she didn't want me to give her the meds...but I did anyway,,,and now I wish I hadn't. Maybe she was telling me she just couldn't take anymore.

Vi, thats not it, you did do the right thing. She was too far gone. She may have choked on all the infection/mucous. This happened to me with one hen. I crop needled her and the feed displaced the mucous and she choked and died in my hand. There was tons of mucous. I also killed one trying to syringe the mucous OUT of the crop first via needle and when I pulled the needle out, it had mucous attached like a wet string of snot and she aspirated on that. So, not much you can do. I remember when I had Romeo, I would hold him face down in my left hand, and milk out TONS of mucous from his crop, one time a huge gob of it the size and thickness of my baby finger came hangin out, it was sooooooo gross and I couldnt believe he could have that much crap in his crop, must have been 3 mls worth. He almost aspirated and died in my hand one time. He literally started to faint, but I got the airway cleared in time and he came round. Its very touchy, when they are that sick I should have just put them down. But I try to make them comfy and warm. Cricket is on her way out. She is ugly skinny know, keel like a knife, ravenous for food and yet fading away. It wont be long now. She is very alert, does her super sweet chirp to me, a cute questioning chrip to get me to fuss her up. She gets all the feed and treats she can handle. But she is starving to death. Im gonna be so mad when she goes. She is a beautiful girl. |

Vi, she is eating copious amounts of food, handrearing formula and eggfood and couscous and millet and corn. She is gorging on food and yet going lite. It is part of her disease. She feels hungry because her body is not absorbing enough nutrients. That is why she is starving. There is nothing I can do. I have had her tested twice or more at the vets. It could be megabacteria. It could be intestinal scaring in the proventriculus, it could be part of her french moult. Im surprised she lived this long. She is just so sweet. I feed her 3 or 4 or 5 times a day as much hand formula as she wants, plus all the other food, greens, toast. Its just the nature of the disease. Sucks. |

Vi, I just fed her again and I checked her keel and it is razor sharp, I cant believe she is alive with zero fat. Wont be long now, sucks. She is alert and sits close to the heat lamp and yet she is sooooooooooo skinny it would be the equivelant of human anorexic. Piss me off. |

Poor Cricket, she would have passed along time ago with you, you gave a chance to have a life, I know that is of little comfort but try to remember that. |

Of course pass, r u kidding me!!! I would love to see pics if u can get some. I have been busy doing the wild daily shuffle with mine, hubby is on the mend and so far I have not gotten sick. If we dont ask, feel free to just post about them like I am doing, but most people dont respond anyway. I think unless you are a breeder yourself, not everyone can appreciate the work, fun, time involved in rearing or fostering or doing what we are doing. I think someone even posted as much about my bubs too, dont feel bad. I think they will be happier when they see them grown and colored up. Will take awhile tho. lol. So how many did survive, 3 right? Pics of ANY kind are relished, even of parents. I will start to take a few of mine too. One of the larger bubs is a bit larger, not sure if it is mine or Inchys anymore, they look similar. Pass, what day should I band them now. I think the one is big enough???? Day 7 or day 9?? |
