Actually no, I've never aspirated a chick. I use toothpicks, creamy formula, and let the bub suck the formula at end of the toothpick, instead of dropping formula inside the gape.

I have done that and killed a bub too, with a TOOTHPICK, thats how the last one died. I believe the formula was just too thin even with the toothpick. So far so good tho. Am praying that it all works out.

Will feed now and get a pic for ya of the consistency. So nerve wracking. Have you ever fed longer than day one or two????

Ok, took some pics and now will load. Hang on. Another thing I am noticing Pass is this. When I dip the pick or brush now. I tap it to get any excess that may DRIP into the mouth before I can get it in for him to chew. I think the drip or larger mouthful is what was killing them. It REALLY is an art. I'm BEYOND mad that I killed the lilac breasts and that I didnt get to save the two in the nest that the parents STARVED. AHHHHH, I could just SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!!! UGH.

Here is how it looks on the toothpick.

Vi, why do u say that? Did she die in hand when u were feeding her? It happens. I actually have killed two adult dying birds by accident via crop needle. When I fed the food, it displaced the mucous that was in the crop and it backed up the mucous into the throat and the bird was dead before I even removed the needle. Thats how easy it is. So I try not to crop needle unless it is dire straights.

On the one hand it was shocking and sad, but on the other it was a type of instant euthenasia. The birds were both light and dying. I was trying to keep them fed till they died in their sleep. One was my Smudgy girl, she was as sweet as Cricket is. Cricket doesnt seem to want to eat any seeds lately. She is so skinny now, that history tells me she will die soon. I hate this part. She is 3 years or so. Just dont live long enough. My girl.

I have no idea. I think I will chill and let mother nature take over. I'm too tired following and monitoring them every second.
