Well Pass, Im about ready to throw the birds out the bloody window. The Gouldians abandoned the last two fertile eggs, the male went straight to trying to nest build again. The second bub, NObody will feed. When I try to, he aspirates the food. I made it ratio 6 water to 1 food and it is just like a grainy liquid. Pass, I need to know HOW THICK or THIN u make your food, can you take a PICTURE of the formula when mixed and show me on the end of a toothpick how thick or thin it is. I am having ZERO luck at all. I expect this chick will die today because I killed it by drowning it. Inchy wouldnt feed it at all and when I tried to transfer the chick to Booboo, I didnt barely get my hand into the cage when he attacked it IN my hand and bit its neck and tried to shake it like a pit bull!!!! It fell on the cage floor which is only 2 inches but still he caused the neck to bleed internally. WTF is that all about???? Maybe I should have removed Booboo from his nest, placed the chick in and then let booboo go back in. Somehow I still think he would have freaked and tried to kill it. He may not be a candidate for a foster parent at all? Maybe because he was tossed out onto his head at 2 days old, he thinks that what he is supposed to do??? I put the other two eggs under Inchy and will see if they hatch and if they will feed. I IMMEDIATELY took the nest box down and seperated the hen and cock. THEY ARE DONE!!!!! I am debating now whether to even let the lilacs try again and just let the goulds die off and be done with them. Too finicky and I dont like all the useless parenting from them. NOW I know why they keep societies as fosters. Gouldians are about as useless as tits on a bull, and Booboo is an axe murding little prick right now. If he was big enough, I would smack the shit out of him for what he did, stupid little ass !!!!! I'm so mad. It really isnt worth it to me to see these poor little chicks grow, hatch, only to die a horrible suffocating death or starvation from useless parents who dont feed or a viscious attack by a stupid bird who has not a clue. Where the hell is the natural instinct of the parents. How can they let so many chicks hatch and die for no good reason. Honest to God, Im about to snap!!! |

Hang in there Maryann. Did the baby die? I just don't understand why they are throwing them out and attacking etc. I'm glad you took that nest box out. |

Oh wow, I can't believe they're doing that to the babies. That's just so weird. I hope everything turns out okay. |

Not yet. I had it under Inchy and freind but they wont feed it. It boggles my mind, its like they can count. One hatched therefore they only feed that one. So again I took it out and am feeding it from the incubator. Who knows how long it will live. So far, I have not aspirated it yet. I have thickened up the formula so it is not like water but a thicker consistency. So the baby had to chew, but am not sure if the crop is emptying enough now. With my luck, it will now get sour crop. So I will wait till midnight now and see if it empties, if not. That is then again another problem to try to deal with. Roger again ripped his right eye skin open, had to do the powder crap again, he looks like a murder victim with all the blood on his face and head. I had to use peroxide to get it off this time. I scissored some feathers off and cut his nails. Im not gonna put him with the other birds for now. I want him to relax and fatten up a bit. Also cut peckenpaws nails again. Seems like she just keeps scabbing the back of her head. I just dont know what the hell is going on. I've tried everything. She is in another smaller flight and if she continues to have a red head, then I will put her back with roger and they can live in a separate cage. I think all this crappy luck is depressing me. I've had a hell of a shitty weekend. Im on pins and needles constantly. I live in constant dread. I think my head needs rebooting. Maybe some electroshock therapy will put it right. |

Post in your own thread woman, you hijacked my post hahahahahaha.... I know Gould's stupid parenting skills can be hard to tolerate but when they get the hang of it they make excellent parents. My blue hen had her 3rd egg today in the nest lol, I went through all the trouble of making the cage bottom soft so she decided to lay inside the nest... I'm happy she did actually. And now I have 3 gould bubs, unfed of course so i moved them to another societies pair and came to work. Oh CBL, My formula is actually in between thick and thin. I think yours is too diluted. I'll get you pics later tonight. |

Lol, sorry Pass, my bad, didnt mean to hijack you. It was just the dial up. Takes too long to switch between pages. So I just said it all here lol. Im glad u confirmed the thickness of the thinness. I have been feeding a creamy consistency and the chick is still alive, how I dont know. But it is. This poor thing has been put thru the wringer and is still hangin in. If it makes it past two days I will have hope. Then I have to worry about infection only. Im up now because I did the last feeding @ 10pm and just woke up now for a nite feed. Crop was nice and empty, good sign. Ya, if u can post the formula pic, that would help alot. I may take my own pic and also post if the comp stays working. So pass, how come u have no problems moving CHICKS and the societies accept them and mine didnt. If they hatch from an egg under them, they seem to feed but not any live chicks??? Also, there are two more eggs potentially to hatch out in the next 2 to 3 days. Will they feed those two younger chicks even with the older one???? Dont zebbies hatch out at the same time as well, all at once???? |

Ok here are the pictures of the formula and creamy is the word.![]() ![]() ![]() I had two pairs of societies on eggs. The pair that hatched the Goulds never fed so I transfered them to the other pair and yay! It worked. I found 4 fed baby Goulds in the nest when I got home from work:

Ha, lucky you, I need some of that luck this way. Ok, great thanks for the pic. Now do u put ANY digestive aid or enzyme or anything else in the formula??? Mine is a bit thicker than that. It was too thin and was surely killing the one bub. This one is still alive but it is only early day two. It is showing no signs of panting so far which is a good sign. If this comp continues to work I will post a pic of my consistency, a bit thicker and creamier. Anything less I have no luck. Mind u I am also making a larger batch and am using the method of one cup set in hot water to keep it around 100 degrees. Do u use hot tap or microwave and let cool down????? So those few questions much appreciated. Thanks Pass, if this bub lives, its all you baby hhahah. |

Hahahaha, I hope it lives.. I heat water on the stove then set a cup in that water. I use nothing with the formula. As simple as that. |

Thats what I am trying to do. I am only putting in this hagen vitamin powder that has enzymes in it. I have run in to too much infection in the crop in the past. So far so good, fingers crossed. Pass have u EVER aspirated a chick EVER?????? I have used the toothpick and gone bad, used brush and gone bad, used eye droppers and gone bad and have had the best luck with a syringe with a bovine teat canula on it as I could just inject into the crop. Only thing is when pulling the syringe away have also had them choke on swallowing right as I am removing the syringe with any food residue or mucous attached. I have had a string of bad luck. How I got the few to live and thrive I dont even know. |
