Pass I have seen this when they dont feel good or if they are laying soft eggs, I would offer her a bit extra heat and more calcium. Usually when that happens, they dont feel well enough. This has happened with budgies and canaries with me.

Maryann,
The bird is super healthy and her eggs are of a nice size and well formed. She just lays them from the top of the perch and then goes back to her nest. Egg 2 was broken as well today.
I will try and save egg 3 by laying the bottom of the cage with soft material.

One bub hatched at 1 pm this afternoon so i waited till 3 and it was still not being fed. So I fed him then had to go to work. I'm not sure what to expect tomorrow morning. We shall see :'(

Oh and another pair formed and they are nesting as well. Male is white breast blue and female is orange head purple breast. The male is one of my last year babies and he hasn't finished coloring, just like his sister.

I was just gonna say Pass....you need something real soft and fluffy under her. I guess they won't go into a

nest box if it's on the bottom of the cage right?

Well Violet,
I spread wood shavings on the bottom of the cage and covered them with a soft white paper. I tested with an infertile egg and it didn't break. Tomorrow egg 3 should be spared :P

Hhaah, I put a folded towel under mine since I have had both chicks and eggs tossed before.

Pass, I woke up to two chicks this am, one under inchy gaping well and another one under the goulds that was gaping weakly. So I took it right away, gave it some dilute formula, and put it under Inchy and it was gaping well. So will see in a bit if it is fed or not. I wasnt sure Inchy's egg was due today as I had not candled for drawdown. I know they should all hatch fairly close together in the same day, but when I remove eggs here and there, the incubation heat changes with each bird. Now Im gonna remove the one fertile egg left under Inchy and give it to doodoo. As I found that doodoo seems to not sit tight at nite as he is doing it all himself. He gives me shit for not relieving him with brooding but how can I hahah.

Anyway I want one to hatch under Booboo so he can have a reward for all his hard work and diligence and he will be my extra backup if the other two hatch under that goulds and dont get fed. :) VERY exciting.

One other thing. When I had feed, I seem only to be able to fill one side of the crop, when they feed, BOTH sides swell :) Much better for the bub. :) Im gonna check now for the second chicks crop to be full, brb.

Buggers, nope, they have not fed the second one yet. Now Im gonna worry, if they dont within a few minutes, Im gonna try under Booboo and then I will fed if he doesnt. Why the hell would they feed one and not the other. Pain in my ASS.

Yes they tend to have preferences for chicks but God knows why ! maybe they sense a weakness in the begging or something like that so they ignore the bub. They will preferably feed the fittest.
let us know.
I'm very frustrated that I had to leave for work. I will not know what happened until tomorrow morning. I'm very nervous.

I agree and think that is why the initial one was not fed. But this one is begger better since I gave it an energy boost, will go now again and check. brb. Still has not fed, but Inchy is out tanking up on food right now, so I will give it a few more minutes and see if he feeds, if not, I will pull and offer Booboo the option with me feeding as well. Will repost in a bit.

Pass, I cross my fingers for yours while u are at work. Sucks u have to go, but nothing u can do about it. I hope it works out for you.

I will log on in a bit. Hubby bought me two range/signal boosters for my laptop, hopefully some time today I can get that one working. Will be posting more often then.
