Maryann,
With goulds it might work yes cause the older clutch usually helps out with the new one but in my case, they are with unpredictable fosters and like you mentioned mine are too closely spaced.
What i did today was giving nests for 2 pairs of zebbies in case any of the Goulds decided to abandon, but deep down, i want the goulds to raise their bubs.

Violet,
Your namesake is fine and happy with her adoptive family. I will take pics tonight.

Pass, me too, I would love for the gouldians to feed their bubs, but am not willing to wait more than a few hours, if I dont see feed in them. I learned the hard way that two perfectly healthy strongly gaping bubs fade. Even when I fed them twice to help with their strength to gape and insist the parents feed, to find them dead the next morning pissed me off to know end.

I would tho, take the bubs during the nite next time, feed thru the nite, then give them back to the parents to see if they will take over, if not, I got Inchy for that. Gives me a bit of a break when tired. I would be happy even leaving them with Inchy full time, but am also too worried as they had one or two die from who knows what. The teeny ones from lack of feed, or mites, or illness, but at least with me, I have the option and now the proper technique down to have them survive. Looks like my lilacsa are back to nesting. The hen and cock have both been in the nest so I assume they are mating. Hope to see FERTILE eggs this third round as the last one was clear.

Maryann,
I hate to see them die and i won't let them if I could. I'm not gonna leave them with their parents if I noticed they are not getting fed. That would be plain stupid! What I meant is that I prefer if the parents fed so I wouldn't have to worry about fostering or hand feeding.
Good luck with the Lilacs :)

Gorgeous bird, like a slate grey now on my comp. So similar in size and flegde. Mine hatched Dec 9, what date was urs?

I know what you mean. I will try the same with the lilacs, I peaked in yesterday and 3 eggs, I hope this round is fertile, last 3 were not. I gave them more nesting material this time and they have made a complete dome, I cannot see by just opening the top, so maybe they will feel more secure this way and feed, who knows? Cant wait to see the bubs and hope they take good care, but I am prepared if they dont. I see u got ur OWN inchy in the background lol, they could be twins :)

Lots of work for us to hand feed eh lol.
