Ok, so my blue pair decided not to sit on their eggs and my blue x green pair decided to abandon brooding a after a few days They had a total of 8 fertile eggs in between them so i shoved 4 eggs under a pair of Zebras and 4 under two male societies that were building a nest. And guess what? As of two days a go I have 8 new Gouldian bubs lol...I'm so excited. |

Pass, can u get pics of the teeny bubs in the nest so we can see the different skin colors of the mutations??? I would love to see that first hand from your brood. I studied the site with all the teeny ones, it was very interesting.

CBL, This is the first time both these zebbies and Societies have fed the babies, so i don't want to push my luck since the nest is not easy to open and I have to deconstruct the whole thing to get to the babies. I prefer not to disturb them at the moment. I hope you understand. Also, nothing too fancy to photograph. 4 are supposed to be blue and 4 green. I'll try however if I can pull the ones in the societies nest and photograph them for you. **update** I pulled the bubs under the societies and took a photo. With the zebras, I deconstructed the nest , shot the bubs then put them in another nest similar to the one they were in. The parents didn't mind ![]() Edited by Pass, Jan 7 2011, 06:06 PM.

Pass that is sooooo nice of you to say, but I will know better next time than to ask. I would never want your bubs to be abandoned because of me. I just thought you may have had a chanse to do what I do and just sneak the camera on zoom to the nest entrance with a flash if the parents were off to stretch or eat. I would NEVER have asked you to do it if I had known you had to do such a disturbance. Honestly I would NEVER be mad at your for that. I totally understand as I have gone thru that tossing and abandoning with mine. I would be so upset if it happened because of a stupid request They are gorgeous and I cant wait to see them color up. So the pile on the left are the greens right? lol I hope one day I get a surprise mutation, that would be fun. Im gonna set up the dilute and a black head I think, may get a surprise there right.

Well I have a bulky professional cam andd the nest entrance is tiny that's what the problem was, and then you know the fosters being first time parents was a factor as well. Anyway, it has been done and nothing happened so pheww!! The ones on the left (pink) are the blue batch, the others are the green ones. Both of the Gould pairs have laid eggs again, but this time I have no fosters available. i hope they get it right by themselves. |

Pass well by the time they are feeding and fledging these first ones, you should put fake eggs under them as well and as they are weaning these ones, they will be prepared to feed the new hatchings as Inchy was. No different if they were double clutching, right?? I was able to get Inchy to feed the 7 day olds AND the new hatchings. |

No, that's too risky. What if they decided to abandon the older ones and feed the little ones exclusively? Just look what they have done when the previous clutch fledged and they decided to feed the silver bubs and neglect Violet the blue bub. In fact I remove the nest one day after the bubs fledge so the parents don't lay eggs very soon ![]() |
