Mature Budgie

Alright, know i havn't been around but i've been doing some serious thinking as to what time going to do with these little buggers. As most of you know, i've had to cage all the budgies rather then having them roam my room like they've been doing for a long time as they were just starting to cause to much trouble. They currently reside in a cage that is about 30 by 30 by 35. ![]() And im still not sure thats big enough for all 17 i have. My numbers are slowly dropping sadly, and i believe i will soon loose 2 more. Coop and lilly are doing terrible, Lilly just cause she;s old and Poor old Coop has a pretty nasty tumor on the go that can't be removed. That put about 1/2 of the trouble away but im still not please with how it is going. Im still a teen i suppose and im wanting my own space now, Well more or less just so i can sleep in. i usually don't crawl out of bed till 1 or 2 pm but its almost impossible to sleep with them and its not from the noise. i sleep through that easily. Problem is when my toes are being attacked by conures and im having tiels singing right into my ear hole. Just to hard to catch them all at night when im working. The birds have completely taken over my room ![]() ![]() Here you can see the budgies cage, Then the double stacked cage, the bottom belongs to my chinchilla boy while the top is just there for the conures and tiels to go, next is Green beans cages ( a Maroon belly rehomeee i took in who scared of all other birds) Next to his cage is my dersser which also has 2 smaller cages on it and then to finish off that wall, i have a storage cabinat there with a lot of bird stuff in it. and There is also a stand with my un used brooder and more newspaper storage. I was taking that picture from my bed which is a futon just to save some space. All these cages to be cleaning is just to much for me now. Wasn't so bad when they were all out as i didn't clean the cages too often just sweep and mop the floors daily and do cages once a week. Now i've having to do all cages every other day for the budgies and green bean, Chinnys cages every 3/4 days and everyone elses once a week or so depending on the mess the conures make with fresh food. Im working full time and along with that i watch my little sister and Barly ever do i get a social life. I've decided i NEED a Aviary. Now i think i have 2 options. I was considering ordering in another double flight cage and setting it up the way i have the budgies now, and then putting those 2 cages together and turn that into one huge cage. But the downfall here, is the site i wanted to order from does not carry these cages in blue. So i almost want to order in 2 double flight cages of the same color and do that but i still feel it wont be enough room for all the budgies and tiels and conures to have their own space since i do mix my birds. I've been looking at this aviary ![]() but the downfall here is shipping on the cage is almost the same price as the cage itself. Im not to fond on homemade aviaries either. The aviary itself would be amazing! if i don't fill it too much there would be loads of room for flight and for each bird to have its own space. Perhapes it would sort my female tiels egg laying habbits a bit and i wouldn't have to worry about loosing any of them. I could still let my tame guys out with me when im home for some one on one. But that darn shipping cost is the killer for me when the aviary itself is nearly or is 1000. I'd be able to sleep in my own room again without being woke up in the morning. Im pretty sure it would be very easy to clean. Litter the bottom with newspapers then every other day just pick them all up and vacume and i'd be set. Just so fustating trying to figure out what to do. Love my guys dearly but i also love my sleep. Probably wouldn't be able to order in either the cages needed or the aviary till spring and till then im looking at other options but its a pain in the rear trying to keep up with everyone right now. |

Enna ...you must be breathing in a lot of bird dust with all of them in your bedroom. Do you have any kind of air filtering ? Are you planning on putting that aviary cage in your bedroom? Guess with all the birds you need a cage with powder coating for easier cleaning. Wow honey, I don't know what to say. That is a lot of birds for one little bedroom, like you said their taking over and there is no room for you. I guess there are none you can part with? I know that would be horrible but I think your getting overwhelmed. I would be.

My first thought was same as Vi, the dust situation for you. I only have one little budgie now and he creates a fair bit of dust, so all those must be alot on your lungs. I was wondering, if you do go for the one large cage, whether you could rig something up along the lines of CBL. She's been able to put up some plastic to curtain off an area for the birds. It just helps protect your lungs a bit more. ![]() As to the cage itself. I don't know much about mixing the species, but if it is ok, then one cage to clean rather than a whole bunch of them, has to be alot easier on you.

Sorry, Been really busy with life but i've happily quit my job and am just chilling more or less for now.
This was a must owning all these birds. I Guess i failed to mention i have a air purifier running 24/7 which to has to be cleaned every few days. Im actually planning on getting a second one aswell. i believe i had first started with these things when it was just 3 budgies, 2 tiels and a bunny. It does a super job too! I would never be without them. I would also like to say, I have decided to say #$%@ cost of the aviary, i am getting it. I will be getting it shipped in sometime early in the new year. YAY!!! What i really like about this aviary too, is if i should ever want even more space, i can simply order in a second aviary just like it and join them! Can you picture that? lol a 14' long ish aviary by 5' wide and 7' tall. *i think i have some pretty big dream yea?* |

That flight ROCKS and I am sooooooooooooo jealous lol. What is the cost of that. Now the only thing about a community flight is that you must know that ALL the birds get along and are not a danger to eachother. Budgie killed my canary remember. If not, u WILL be stuck with STILL having a few cages anyway to separate the ones that dont get along all the time. So keep a cage or two back and have them set up for that reason. |
