Well I read about assisted hatching and had to do it. Now I know that after 24 to 48 hours from drawdown if not hatched to go in. When I went in, the chick was full term but dried out. Had I gone in a day or two ago, it would have been alive. Lesson learned.

I will re read the assited hatch again and again, to put it into my brain that u cannot go longer. Either the chick will run out of energy by depleteing the yolk storeage or dry out.

Sad but at least I have more knowledge now. I hope this one remains healthy and continues to grow, so far so good.

Well chick was alive at 8am and dead now at 2:42. No clue why? My inkling may be that they dont feed during the nite and it may have been too weak to beg and then died??? They stopped feeding at 8pmish and then started at about 9am even tho I had food there and it was alive.

So not sure. Wont set up any more gouldians till I am organized and clean and have more free time. Right now I have only one pair of budgies set up for a clutch. If they dont breed I will close everything down till I see all in mint condition. Too much work and stress. May concentrate on selling off a few to make my job easier.

Sorry CBL :(
I've always noticed that my Societies never fed till an hour or more after light went on in the room. The other species feed as soon as there is light. Maybe like u said, the little Gould went a long time with no food and it got weaker.
That's why I always help with the feeding the first couple of days.

So Pass what do u do then? How do u help, what is your formula? I never helped with the first orange head that they raised, but, I had them in the bathroom and I believe they may have gotten more light as my hubby was up at 6am and I was in bed by midnight and so I think they stayed up longer.

Its so aggravating. Im so mad at myself for not being more aware and thinking that they would just do the job. Im on natural lighting and it was obviously not long enough daylite for them right now. Also, gouldians will feed thru the nite, hence the flouresent mouth nodules. So things I learn at the expense of a critters life is unacceptable. Thanks all.
