Well, that durn green canary has been singing, a lot! Not real loud, but on and off all day. I'm actually quite pleased! I didn't expect more than chirping, and someone is getting serenaded! The first time I tried to record it with my digital camera he shut down as soon as he saw me! Today, he hasn't been quite as shy, but my camera was in the car! One of these days... Theresa in Indy |

Thats awesome, now it could still be a hen tho. Males sing REALLY loud. Unless is is a german roller and most are yellow, rarely will u get any varigation on them. So I have hens that do a beautiful soft song and serenade. I prefer the hens song to the males now actually. Try to get the audio and let us hear. |

I can't manage to make the digital camera work on video! I told my son it's his job to record the darn bird, (he was making a video of something else yesterday!) |

I finally got a good video of Errol singing. When I downloaded the picks/videos from my camera, it renamed them all, and I don't know which one it is! (And no sound card in my cranky old PC to listen to them.) Anyway, the smallest was 27MB, way too big to email! On a fluke last week, I emailed my (former) MIL to see if she still had a canary. When I found out she's been birdless for over a year, I offered this pair to her. She doesn't want to fuss with eggs/nests, so I told her I'd keep Hedwig, and she could have Errol. She'll be in Indy later this month, so I don't even have to drive him anywhere! Should I separate them now, so they can get used to "flying solo?" I have another cage... |

Yes I would separate them so they get used to it. Will be less traumatic for them when the separation comes. |

I'm keeping the hen, unless someone pipes up re: my Craigslist ad and wants her. I like to get different pets, but sometimes take on more than I can handle! I never discard any of them, but often a better situation comes along for them. Last year my son just had to have a tortoise. After 8 months of doing all the upkeep, and him hardly handling her, I saw a Looking To Adopt ad on CL. I talked to my son and we agreed it was another family's turn to have her! I've taken several pets in foster type situations, like the canaries. From that same event we also had three diamond doves and several fish. I free cycled the fish and gave the doves to my old babysitter. The lost their last budgie over a year ago and were ready to try something new. I get to play with them for a while, then share them with someone else. |
