CBL ..... why do you say they are loud???? The males sing right? and the hens don't. Do you mean they sing loud? or do they have other sounds? As you can see I know nothing about about Canaries |

They sing LOUD. If u plan to sleep in, u may not with a canary. They will start to sing even if covered in the morning. I can sleep thru it as I have a door that closes and a fan on hi in my bedroom to drown out the noises. Seems to me that the Canary males are loudest of all. They even out noise my tiels when they are singing. I can JUST hear the canary even thru all that noise, so if I am not sleeping soundly, they can in fact wake me up. When I sold one male to a friend, he has a 4000 sq ft home and he was stunned by how loud the bird was. Now some species are louder than others. Eg: american singers are the loudest, then fifes, then closly followed by the norwich, the quieter ones were the rollers and the waterslagers. So if u do decide to get a male, make sure u know what u are getting. Even my roller who is whisper quiet, has this annoying single contact whistle that I CANNOT stand and am selling him. He just started to do this after two years. Grates on my LAST nerve. I would have sold him by now but he went into a moult and I dont want him to die becasue I moved him during. So I told the guy, if he is serious he has to wait till the bird is thru most of it. Time will tell. But I cant keep him with that god aweful noise. Drives me round the bend. In fact, the louder song of the fife is less grating than the whistle of the slager and roller. I may get rid of the one hen slager as well. She does that aweful tone whistle as well. The tone of the fife hens is fine. Different and tolerable. |

Ducky would send you over the top then -- that bird is louder than a jet engine, I swear. When I'm watching tv, he doesn't scream but he chatters non stop -- and I mean non-stop. He sits on my shoulder and chatters away like there's no tomorrow. It's annoying as all get out. |

Ya, I could never have a large bird, the ones I have are living on the edge. The tiels can be very annoying especially when they scream for eachother if they are out of site. If they did that on any regular basis, theyd be gone too. I dont mind rescuing birds, but cannot tolerate any undue loud prolonged noise. Then I need someone to rescue them from me. So I dont lose my mind. I try my best to keep them happy. But a day may come when I cannot tolerate it. So for now. All is good. The finches and hen canaries are the best so far. I wont be taking on any more birds or rescues now. I am at capacity for that. I want a bit of room to breed the odd clutch of tame anything. For now, nothing is going on. I decided not to breed the budgies yet but to see about picking a funky color combo for the future. I may just end up breeding Doodoo to a fawn hen for the fun of it and letting him and Inchy split the clutch for now. I think Booboo would make a great and funny dad.

Teamo chirps, warbles all day long. But it never bothers me, the pitch and level is fine, it fads into the background, poor Cappone he is so loud, his chirps, his natter and then on days like today when he is hooting for me. I swear one day my ears will bleed. Sometimes he does a frantic, terrifying kind of hoot and I have to calm him down. I feel bad about trying to quiet him sometimes because if he is just chirping and chattering because he is happy, should I really try to distract him. But on some days my nerves cannot take it. Thank goodness I love him so much or I could never tolerate it. |

Ya, Cathy, I could not take the hen doing that call all day, thats why we traded the breeder. She hen wanted to breed constantly, so I didnt feel bad that she went to a breeder. Thats how I got Pasha, he is gorgeous and quiet unless every 4 or 5 days they sing for a bit. I can control the contact calls by having them together all the time. |

Thanks I wish I knew how old he/she was and what his history is, but maybe its better I do not know because if I found the previous owners I would never give him/her up. I know it sounds cruel but he is MY bird now and no matter how sad the previous owners were or are I could not part with him. He was at the humane society for 7 days and no one called, I even had them check all the humane society as far as Toronto just to be extra careful so I feel I did my part. If god forbid one of my birds got loose that is the Least I would do. Loving em lots |
