Sold Canaries; A good deed?

Crazy Bird Lady

Well, u know I have been stressed to the enth degree for the last month.

Well, in my other post, I said my mind had snapped. Still there.

What I had done over the past week is advertise to sell my noisiest birds.

The fife canary males.

One yellow one, I gave to a friends mom who has wanted a yellow singer for 3 years now.
One I still have and he is advertised for 30 dollars and has had two inquiries I am waiting to hear back from.

But the one I sold today was inspiring. A european man contacted me saying it was a gift for his daughter who
has been fighting cancer for the past 4 years, she is seven years old now.

He insisted on taking the older bird, the dad as he loved the cinnamon colors on his head and back.

This man was so nice, so caring, so respectful that I actually felt good selling a bird. I sold it for 25 and gave him tons of supplies and set up the cage for him. He saw the rest of my flock and freaked and said how much he appreciated what I was doing for the birds. How he understands the need to rescue them and that his daughter getting this cancer has changed his entire outlook on life. He used to be all about working and making big money and trying to get rich, now he is back in school, college I think taking a course on educational management so he can counsel people, I would guess in the same situation that he has experienced.

He thanked me for caring for the birds and said he wants to come back and could he please buy a hen from me.
I told him that most of all of them are my babies, by that I mean, sweet birds that I dont want to sell, but agreed, I may sell him cocoa. She is a color that he loves and she is very independant and not near as freindly as other hens I have.

I dont mind, it is for his younger daughter. If he calls, I will and if not, she is not for sale.
I have put an ad up for the german roller as well, and the breeder took back the waterslager for me. She said when my mind is not so fragile and if I want him back, she will either give me a male or lend me one to breed and sell babies. I told her I will think about it.

Somehow, I am able now to do what I could not before and that is breed and sell some birds. When I see that there are such nice and lovey people out there that may take good care, it warms my broken heart.

It will keep me occupied during this ugly time. We shall see, my plan is now to breed the gouldians and keep the lovely colors I want and sell for a few dollars the extra to help pay for the feed and upkeep.

Hi,

I agree -- there are really some really lovely, loving and caring people out there in the world. I'm so glad you were able to connect with that man. What a lovely gift to his daughter. And the gift to you is to see that there really are some great people who appreciate and love animals.

Most all are good, I lot one norwich canary hen last week. I found her medicated her and the next morn she was gone.

The only one really is the bald headed gouldian still alone as she is molting and I am giving her extra iodine and vits for that. Rest are good.

Cathy, if I dont stop to think, then I can get thru parts of the day, but if I even think a tidge or look around and focus on whats not here, I lose it. Had a bad beginning to this day, panic attack as soon as I woke up. Anxiety or whatever u call it. It really is physical pangs of tremendous fear I have, makes my heart pound and I sweat. Does any of that make sense? I will definately take a low dose valium tonite. I MUST sleep and not think.
