Well my pair of orange heads are on 8 eggs. They have been sitting tight for 5 days now. I snuck a peak and at least 4 are fertile with veins. I hope that they feed them all with no problems, no abandonment, no chick tossing, no worries. How nice would that be. I have Inchy and a male set up on dummy eggs just in case, they are sitting tight also. I would be so pleased if it all worked out without a hitch. That male gouldian is so stunning, I just cant even tell u how dark purple his breast is. He is so sleek and in mint condition, when people see him, they gasp and say he doesnt look real! hahaha. I have not been checking the nest box at all. I want to wait till they hatch out and will have a quick peek to see if they are being fed. I read that they dont start to feed till all have hatched. So if there are any duds, I will remove them to make sure the parents arent waiting too long. Now Pass, any adivse or comments or info that I can expect with raising gouldians, NOW is the time to inform me. I want to be ready for anything. Edited by Crazy Bird Lady, Apr 22 2010, 02:45 AM.

Well booboo is a sucky meanie. He was up under my chin just now and when I stopped fussing him up, he bit my throat, well nibbles really, asking why I had the nerve to stop lol. When I put him in with the others, he chases all of them down and gives them shyte. He harrasses them, and does that one chirp threat and a lunge, he is HILARIOUS. So I have to let him in for only a short visit. He is basically living with the blind gouldian hen. They snuggle and he keeps her company. |

I certainly hope so. Pass, ? Is it better to transfer an unhatched gouldian egg or two to the society finches or wait and transfer any bubs that the gouldians are not feeding? I read somewhere that the societies have a bacteria that will kill the baby gouldians if they feed them? Is that true? |

Ok, when I first candled the eggs, there were 3 that looked to be fertile and one that had a dark spot. I recandled today as they were both out for a bath and I see at least 5 filling now and maybe more!!!! VERY exciting. |

No two orange headed normals. I will be pairing up the black headed male with the yellow hen. I wish I had done it at the same time, Im an idiot for not thinking of it. I may have needed to foster to one or the other, but I think my mind set at the time was, what if they ALL decide to abandon ALL their chicks, them I would be struggling with like 20 possible chicks!!!! That is why I set up inchy and friend. Hopefully I wont need them. |
