Well here we go again.

Yellow bub is fine, but pink bub stopped gaping this am.

I think he is sick. So I started the amoxitex just now.
Gave him some baytril and had to syringe into his crop.
It was quite the trick to force open his little beak without
breaking him in half. Hope he comes thru it.

So this is what I did right from the start with these two.
I used boiled water and used the anti biotic/vit water and
they STILL got sick.

I used two different toothicks for them each and every feed.
But I did have to wipe his beak a few times with tap water and I
bet thats what did it.

He has his first dose of baytril AND the amoxitex in the boiled feed
water. So fingers crossed he bounces back. If he does, his name
will be Bounce in honour of my bouncy sweet male canary that was
killed by another male.

Photobucket is still acting up tho.

Oh Shoot!!!
I hope the meds do the trick...
Sometimes we do everything in our power to prevent them from going sick and yet they do.
In my nest of 5 zebra bubs, I started the meds just as a prevention 3 days ago but today noticed that the youngest is sick.

Pass, u may have nipped it in the bud then. That chicked actually gaped ONCE and I blasted that feed tube in so fast to fill the crop lol. A good sign, I hope it works, it did with all the rest. So fingers and toes doubly crossed for both U and me.

Pass is it normal for the bubs to flip on their backs and beg for food, the yellow one keeps doing that, just want to make sure its normal. The pink one has started to gape the last two feeds, so he must be feeling a bit better. Fingers still crossed.

Ok, I have been stressin my guts out. The pink bub is gaping still a bit, but BOTH have gassy slow crops now. The yellow one is bad. So here is what I did, u HAVE to remove the crop contents as NOTHING was moving thru.

He kept beggin and beggin for food but nothing will fit, he was completely stopped up with gas and food. So here is what I did, I am posting this info for your sakes but for mine as well, as I could not remember
what I had done for which bird.

Booboo was the one with the same thing. I had initially thought it was inchy, that is why I am posting this info, so I may refer to it in the future if need be.

I went to my post and found what I did. But this was not working for the yellow
bub as he was completely stopped up.

So I had to do something drastic and VERY scary. Picture this, tiny bird in left hand, my fingers really, holding it by its tiny body trying not to squish it. Then putting in the teat cannula tip on a syringe and with my right hand into its crop, then looking into the mirror, because the bird is too close to my eyes to focus, and with my teeth, pulling the plunger out just enough to remove the crop contents and remove all without aspirating the chick on its own contents, VERY scary.

Both are done. I was able to, with a FRESH cannula, insert warmed pediatlyte/amoxitex/enzyme water into both of them.

Hopefully this will move the contents thru and hydrate them and then allow me to feed thin fluid into the crop with all the meds and enzymes.

I am horrified they will die, but I have no choice, these will be the last for sure for awhile till I gain my confidence back.

I removed the norwich canaries from the breeding cage for now. As I dont need anymore bubs or distractions till these are healthy and out of the woods.

I wont be taking anymore eggs or anything, down the road, older chicks if needed rescuing but not from the egg again. Too scary.

Well CBL,
I would also recommend no more eggs. It's very frustrating that's why I never do it. I just help out the parents for a day or two if I had to.
Well eggs are just eggs and it's ok not to rescue them (I try to convince myself with this otherwise I may be swamped with dozens of chicks to handfeed)

Yes I agree, its too hard. Too frustrating and worrisome. I decided if anymore eggs are laid, I wont let anyone brood them so I dont see any veins and no chick developing, that is when I have a hard time leaving them, but if I see them unbrooded and appearing clear, I can leave them, so no more.

So far the pink one seems comfortable and able to digest, the yellow tho, still having trouble digesting anything, nothing seems to really be going thru. I removed crop contents again and will just keep hydrating this chick till he poops or dies. I just gave some anti inflammatory drug and I hope this helps.

Going back to bed for an hour or so. Pass, when u give the nystatin, how do u give it and how much? I just gave some straight into the crop and it didnt go thru, had to suck it back out as he was bloated and uncomfortable.

I will try 50% mix of acv and pedialyte to see if this kills whatevers in the crop.

It weird that nothing is passing thru though cause mine even bloated used to empty their crops!
What about a thinly diluted formula with meds just to give him some strenght?
Keeping everything crossed and please do update me cause I'm worried.
The Nystatin dosage was sent by PM.

Thank you Pass.

I got the bloat out of both now, I am giving little minute amounts of diluted feed with antibiotics.

I just gave a drop of kaeopectate as per instructions and both are gaping for food, which is better since the pink one was not. So he is feeling better for sure and he seems to not be bloating anymore.

The yellow one is still on his back but I sucked out the crop again and gave a similar dose of feed, diluted with meds in it, he is also gaping and actually never stopped gaping. They seem hydrated but the yellow one has not really pooped good yet, barely a smudge of a stain on the paper.

The fact that they are both alive and still gaping, gives me hope.
