Ok, Im typing this so no one makes the mistake I did this am. It cost the life of one of the newly hatched bubs. First of all I would like to say I was and am thrilled I have the formula now to hatch eggs when hens wont or abandon them. Now heres what I believed happened. Bub number one, hatched in lightening speed, 2:30 am he was a egg and 3am he was hatched. Very surprising and good to know. I had the temp varying all over the place, and the humidity was from 50 to 90% at times when I put too much water in the brooder. With all my screw ups, they still managed to hatch out perfectly with no assistance. Here was my fatal mistake. These bubs are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tiny, and u will see when I post pics, when I fed the first one, I FOR sure aspirated it, because I wasnt sure the first drop of liquid went in, I gave another and off I went to the kitchen, and when I checked on it 20 min later, it was dead. The crop cant even really take one FULL drop, u have to give about 1/3 to 1/3 drop, not easily done. So I was elated one sec for the hatch and depressed 20 min later knowing I caused it. I went back to bed and when I woke up, the second was JUST hatched at @ 10am. It is EVEN tiner than the first. I was DETERMINED NOT to kill this one, so I was EXTRA careful not to give more than 1/2 drop. Even tho the instructions tell u to feed until it stops gaping, DO NOT DO THIS, IT IS A FATAL MISTAKE. So this bub is now 5.5 hours old and doing well. I have colored up the formula so I can SEE the contrast in the crop so as not to kill it. I was so bummed that it wont have a sibling to cuddle with or keep warm. Brutal mistake. Anyway, I will post pics of both of them, as I took a few when the first arrived and was alive. I look forward to seeing this little one grow and cant wait to see his color mutation. Thanks to Pass, I now have the hens separate from the boys. Pass I.D'd them for me. I have 2 new eggs tho, one yesterday and one today. The egg today was cracked, but I read that I can glue it with elmer wood glue and so I did and it is under the parrotlet with about 6 others. She can incubate for me and I will pull and feed when and if they hatch. |

Oh lordy maryann so much to take care of. Do not blame yourself, pretty brutal when YOU FOLLOW directions and THEY ARE WRONG. So if you need to blame, put it on the idiot manufacturer. Great thought to colour formula so you can see it in the crop better. Glad the birdies are all separate though, you need some down time and some time to enjoy the bubs you have. Big ole virtual hug to you |

Well hubby wants to name him Pinch, I say no, too close to inch, waif seems cute, tiny is too obvious lol. Could name him Bruiser lol or something big and dangerous lol. I was thinking any slang name for a 10 cent piece since he is no bigger. Any ideas. |
