Thanks pass, I will ask my vet if they have that, in the meantime, I gave him a dose of baytril in his feed and his poops look better today than this am or last nite. So hoping it will do the trick. |

Well I candled the gouldian eggs today and they still have red veins and must be growing, she is still sitting tight so I am hopeful. If they were dead, then they would have no viens and be dark and blotchy. I figure a week or so more to go. |

YAY for Gould bubs... My hen is supposed to start hatching her eggs tomorrow. I've never let her raise bubs before but this time I'm gonna let mother nature take its course and let her raise them. I'm terrified though that she might let them die. Truth is, I think I will intervene if she did a lousy job.. |

U go Pass, do just that, give her a chanse and then even assist and let her set on them, sometimes if u give them the headstart, they will take over, but if she tosses them out, u gotta take over or foster. My breeder friend is having ZERO luck with his, clear eggs and his zebbies keep tossing chicks and eggs. Pity.

Does anyone know why they toss their chicks? |

Pass might, I think sometimes they just get accidently tossed out when the hen is flighty. Also I think, if they want the nest just right or the males want to keep building or they are green hens, young and stunned. Who knows. |

Most finches are programmed to toss every forein object, dirt or loose poo they find to keep the nest clean. When they are inexperienced they mistake the bubs for a foreign object and toss them. That's my theory. CBL, This hen was a rescue case and I saved her life. She gave me many bubs since but all fostered under Zebbies or Socies. The reason I fostered was cause she was old-ish and I didn't want her to get tired. However she's very tame and also protective towards her nest that It takes me forever to make her leave the box to check the eggs. And since it's probably her last brood due to old age I would like to give her the chance to experience the joy of parenthood. No bubs yet by the way, I just checked... |
