How about getting a child's playpen when you're around and have to get up and go to the other room? Put blankets and stuff in it. That way he wont' ruin your hardwood floors and he doesn't have to be locked up. I had a friend that did that when her little dog was getting old and just couldn't help it anymore. Her doggie grew to like his little playpen. She made it so very comfortable with lots of blankies, toys, etc. That became his bed and she would put playpen in her room at night so they could sleep together in the same room. When you're at work, you just might have to leave Eddie in the kitchen to save your floors. |

Okay we must be able to come up with a makeshift idea instead of the expensive pads at petco. Away to adapt diapers even, come on JB members lets figure this one out for Eddie If he stays in the kitchen when your out, and put his bed etc., in the kitchen with him, then we just come up with something to use when your home. My Robbie has same issue on and off, comes with the age. Oh and Vi I have had the joy of stepping on the little suprise a few times in the kitchen, ewww. I completely understand the situation. Robbie is (fingers crossed) only occasionally making boo boos. |

That picture of Ed looks terrible doesn't it?? He looks so sad. Poo is rarely.....pee was getting excessive. He is just getting lazy. Letting him outside...he pees on the door before he even goes outside. ha ha Of course it is cold here and he just can't spend enough time out. He is funny he never liked it outside much anyway always wants to be inside with me. I decided I was being selfish and neglectful. I want to come home from work do laundry, eat, look at e-mail etc. But, after all he has been alone all day. So last night I stayed with him even sat on the floor while he ate his dinner. He seemed more satisfied. |

Well, it's confirmed. Eddie has forgotten how things work. Let him out, made his breakfast..he ate just a little. Then went back to the kitchen to eat the rest. I was in the bathroom getting ready for work but trying to keep my eye on him. I saw him coming back into the dinning room and he stops at the door......lifts his leg on the dinning room door and pees all over!!!! I clean that up ..... take him out the front where he proceeds to pee three more times. You know that play pen that Tish suggested sounded good. But, do you put their water bowl in there? Doesn't seem right not to have a drink all day. The "Golden Years" suck. ha ha That is a quote from my uncle. |

The playpen is the perfect idea, I cant believe I forgot to say that as my sister in law was JUST here on saturday and her two poms have to be in one as they mess the house. They prefer to be in it. They have those foam caves in it and the girls love it. She covers the bottom with the pads actually but the newspapers will do fine. |

Dogs just like people can get senile. Sometimes as they age they simply cannot hold their urine as long, when robbie asks to go out, it has to be asap or he will not be able to hold it. Play pen seems great idea maybe work out a holder for the water that is not easily tipped and put newspaper etc. You could also pick up some really cheap throws, discount stores carry them for next to nothing, then throw them in the washer and dryer. At night the playpen can be in the livingroom with you, that way he is still with you. |

Thanks everyone for all the good suggestions. I think I'll start with the kitchen first because I have a door I can close to keep him from the rest of the house. He has his nice big bed that I bought him that he doesn't like to lay on because he likes his sofa. If I find some potty tonight I'll put a little on some news paper. See if he gets the hint while I'm gone. He will be free and familiar in the kitchen and that makes me feel better. I'll just pretend like I accidentally closed the door. I'm not going to let him see me do it. ha ha I love him so much ... he truly is getting senile. Sometimes he just stands in one spot doing nothing. Poor guy. |
