The one on kijiji is a spice finch, a very close relative to the Bengies. However the Spice "Lonchura punctulata" is a true specie that occurs in the wild while the Bengies "Lonchura domestica" were man made by crossing many species of Lonchuras. One of the main visual difference between them is that the Spices have black beaks and the Bengies have the upper mandibles dark and the lower ones much lighter. |

Because of Pass and Maryann I have fallen in love with finches and canaries so that is why at Petsmart now I spend even more time at the birdies. lol I have come to appreciate their beauty and their personalities. Makes my hubby nervous, when I come home from Petsmart I always see fear in his eyes, "what did she buy today". Just keeping him on his toes lol |

Hhaha cathy, u need to get one, they are so cheery. I will now always make sure I have a few hand tame/raised finches, Inchy is MORE tame than the budgie. He is sooooooooooooooooo cute. But I think its a hen as it does these tiny chirps and when I put it in with the males for a visit, the dark pied bengie came right over and was singing and dancing right away, it was funny, so I think she is a hen, BONUS for me. I love my hens. |
