Ok so today the birds got out for a flight, I noted that one was on one leg, initially I thought he was ready to snooze but realized he was not, I make it a habit to DAILY stand back about 4 feet and eyeball EVERY single bird. So I picked him up and saw he had scaley leg. Thinkin it was not so bad, not really much at all on his face I went for the cream. When I was rubbing it on, HIS TOE FELL OFF IN MY HAND!!!! I was in utter shock to say the least. Well it was really half a toe, but still shocking. I took a good look and saw that his legband was VERY tight and his leg and foot where grotesquely swollen. I went to work fast. He had good circulation, no dead toe or skin and I believe after watching him, this is what happened. He got scaly leg, he was chewing at his foot, self mutilating it really and causing it to swell and make the band really tight. I then cut the band off, soaked his feet in surgical scrub, stopped the bleeding, gave anti inflammatory pain meds, ivermecton for the mites, and baytril injection for the possible infection. He chewed at it again and again I had to re-do the cleaning. This time I moved his cage in front of the flight and he was very happy and settled down and ate and drank. He was not flufffed and looked quite normal. Poor thing. So I took a VERY close look at the entire flock and a few more had minute amount of scales so I went berserk. I tore out the entire flight cage, feed dishes ALL perches, u name it, GONE. I then took each one of the 45 budgies in hand and ivermected them all. Will have to do that two more treatments but am determined to get rid of it ALL. This came to me from the dfsy that I rescued. Even tho he was quarantined and medicated for a month, it got to the rest of the flock. In hind site, I would have quarantined for longer. |

Girl, nothing I hope. He is doing quite well today, standing on BOTH feet ![]() Now the bubs are giving me some trouble, the blue one just doesnt want to fricken eat, even with an empty crop. They both seem fussy. I am just going to crop needle them from now on, It is too stressful to try to get them to eat by mouth, I find the one will gasp like it is taking its last breath. I think she eats too fast and then has to stop to gasp for air. She only does this when eating. Not sure what the heck is going on. She if fine otherwise. I have given probiotics and vits. Not sure what I can do. If I see another egg, I swear, Im gonna toss it. My flock needs to be healthy, dont want to add to any more problems. Im tired, going for a lie down now. Oh, the doc says he thinks I have a virus, so he also gave me meds for my lungs, thinks he hears a bit of junk. So that is what has been causing my wonderful hack attacks and sleepless nights. good nite zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. |

Cathy, doc gave me meds for bacteria chest infection, he said I probably have a virus and now my chest is infected and yet I can take a good deep breath but my chest hurts. I am hacking up a bit of mucous but i have been much worse so, I feel just a bit achy and hot, have a low grade fever. Still walking wounded and able to function, so not complaining
