Hi, I will be posting everything going on in the nests of my 3 societies finches pairs. They mostly have their own eggs but I also collected a few eggs from the zebras and put them in their nests. This morning a first baby hatched and I beleive it's a Zebra finch: ![]()

So that confirms it then, the first hairy chick I had that did not make it was a zebbie and this one is a society. Pass, u were right :), but u knew that lol. What got me thinking it was the other way round was the fact that I thought Socies were bigger than zebbies, but I guess not. Its just their fat heads and bigger beaks I guess, so the zebbies must weight more by weight then. So pass, how do I know which of the whites is a male then? Any way to tell other than, patch which they dont have? The beaks are equally dark red on all 3.

Yup CBL, the first one was a zebbie and the one u have now is a Socie... It's ironic that you wanted a zebbie and got a socie and I'am dying to get a socie and all I get are zebbies lololol... Wanna switch babies? Violet and Cathy, It's true they so fuzzy.. I guess it's a camouflage thing since Zebras love to line their nests with white fuzzy material and this way the chicks are well hidden inside the nest. The first time I bred zebras many years ago, I thought the parents ate the eggs or burried them untill I felt the babies with my fingers while I was looking for the missing eggs. |

Pass, also, this bubs eyes are starting to open and look red. So what color showing pigment will have red eyes?

Red? well, fawns, fawn pied and whites with fawn background should have dark red eyes. Inos have bright red eyes... I hope you have an INO... I have one and he's the dad rearing the little zebbie. |

With dark pigments, no, it's not an INO... Fawns are the cinnamons, so yes, probably
