A friend of mine called me today. He has a parotlett who he's had since she was weaned. He's had her for a few months. Today he called me and asked if I could take her. Turns out that she was almost killed today by his dogs.

I named her Pippy in honor of my little sparrow who died. She is not tame and he told me that whenever they tried to pick her up, she would bite. Well, after being bit by Ducky, a little parotlett's bite was not going to intimidate me. I just put my hand in her cage, picked her up and now she's butter in my hands. I hear her calling me right now.

I'll get some pics when my camera is working again. I also need to get some pics of Fred & Ethel. I've been without a camera for a while and it's time I got it fixed.

Pippy needs some attention -- she's squeaking for me :):):)

Pippy is happily sitting on my shoulder right now as I type. She is such a good little birdy. So far, Ducky is not jealous but I will never ever allow them to be near each other. EVER.

Pippy is not trying to fly off or anything. She's just sitting on my shoulder being a good little birdy!

Ok, what do u mean ALMOST killed by the dogs??? Did they have their mouths on her? If so, u need to check for any saliva, just the saliva can kill her within 24 hours caused by the bacteria. See if she has any scratches on her AT ALL, if so, u got to get her to the vet, if it was "just a close call" then, all is good.

That is sooooooooooooooooooo cool, whatever u do DONT get another parrotlet, then she will become a pit bull and bite u harder than ur mccaw. One on one, one their own, they are super cool birds. With another, forget it. If I want to interact with mine, I have to separate them in other rooms or its biting big time.

Just a close call. The dogs never touched Pippy but ONLY because Steve and his daughter were right there and were able to chase off the dogs before they touched Pippy.

I'm in love with this little gal. She's taken to me already.

THat's what I read about having two parotletts. I won't get another one. One thing I will say is that Pippy's bite will never be as nasty as Ducky's can be. The size of their beaks prevents it from being as damaging as Ducky's who can break through nuts.

You have a parotlett???? Cool -- I can pick your brain! May I when I need to?

Hhahah yes, I have 4 of them and one 3 were rescues and one a bub from the nest and she is the one that bites the hardest because she has NO FEAR lol. Her name is sweet pea, and she can be a gem. I have pics of her hanging off of my shorts, hair, hiding in my ponytail, IN a bag of chips my hubby was eating and sharing salad with us, hubby makes sure her butt is NOT facing in the food tho. lol. She has landed ON/IN our dinner plates. She is quite the character and if I has her to step up with my finger, she automatically bypasses it and lands either on my head or shoulder. She is a sweetie pie, but if she is around her male friend, she turns into a landshark!!!! U cannot have them with any other birds, they will bite their toes off and worse. I read a funny story where one attacked a cop that was handing out a ticket. It was hilarious.
