I started working for a friend early this year, he has a collection of parrots and lorikeets , he is ill and unable to care for the flock so I took over the running of the flock ,

In thought I was doing the right thing , inproving there diet , living conditions , breeding all the right thing

I did not think to far into the effects on the birds , I figured if there aver all healh improved they would be ok

So far so good until today, I took some of the lorikeets for sexing by the vet , 1 he could not sex as it was way to fat - to the point its in danger of liver and kidney problems .

1 male lorikeet I took to the vet had a beak problem I had guessed it was a vitamin issue , well it was not a vitamin issue , the poor bird had cancer and on top of that he had an infection in the beak , he was put to sleep.

After talking to the vet , the fat lorikeet is on a very strict diet , all the lorikeets are now going on a new diet.

Well done and good for you. What is an ideal weight for a lorikeet anyway and how fat was the fat one in grams please?

ok so this was harder than i thought , most of the lorikeet mix does not have much information about it or what it contains, So far the bird has only lost 2g well that could be the difference between a full crop and an empty one . I have added more fruit and veg to its diet and cut out the dry mix every 2nd day but still no luck ,
