Ok, so now I have been camped out at my kitchen window for hours now. I got some video footage of a beautiful Male Indigo Bunting. Needless to say I cant believe no society have tamed or bred this type of bird. Just Stunning in color, darker blue than any blue u have ever seen, the pics will do it no justice. I have also taken a pic from one of my field guides to show u. Still pales in comparison to the rich rich blue the bird is in the sun. I also enjoyed at the same time!!!! a male ruby throated hummingbird and a Norther Oriole. I was just not fast enough on the camera, but was loathe to take it off of the bunting. I have only seen one 3 times in my entire lifetime, but never from 10 feet away Enjoy.![]() ![]() This is closer to his real dark color. ![]() ![]() This is a video clip to show he is real lol ![]() Edited by Crazy Bird Lady, May 18 2009, 10:28 PM.

No doubt!! I'm in shock, I was showing my hubby the pics I took when he said, HEY, HE's HERE, LOOK. Sure enough, he was back at the feeder chowing down. Eats alot for a little bird. I swear if I saw where he was nesting I would steal a chick ahahh. The hens are quite drab and brown with a hint of blueish tinge to them, but the males are beyond stunning. Believe me when I say the pics do it no justice. The head is an irridescent dark purple and the body is the most dark indigo blue u have ever seen, with a gorgeous sheen to it. A bit of brown on the tips of the flights. I want to try to hear him sing tho. I have cracked the window in case he comes back. |

Beautiful bird! Maybe someone does breed them but doesn't advertise? I'd enjoy a pair or 2 in my aviaries. Bet you make sure there's fresh seed there every day now?
