I checked under the gloster hen today and she had like 5 eggs she was sitting on and it looks like one has red veins???? I have not seen anything mate her so I am wondering whos egg it is. I have so many hens laying eggs, my head is spinning. So I removed and put it under the other fife hen that is sitting tight and if the timing gets close to the end, I may give it back to the gloster to hatch and raise. |

What kind of parents are canaries usually, with all these hens laying I hope the moms and dads are doing their jobs so you do not have to intervene. |

Well I know fifes are EXCELLENT parents and thats why breeders keep pairs of them when breeding Norwich as they are not the greatest parents and sometimes leave the chicks to fledge too early. The hen is doing an amazing job and a few times a day I put dad in with to help as I stand there, and then, I remove him and let her continue on, as I dont want him to mate with her again. I was told by the breeder who gave me the bird that he let her raise 6 on her own no problems. As there are only two, its a cakewalk for her lol. |

Well to my lovely surprise, I have at least two more fertile eggs under two different hens. The gloster had two under her, so I think she is a cross either gloster/fife or gloster/norwich, time will tell. I also had a fertilized egg under the parisian frill but it cracked and when I repaird it, she tossed it out of the nest. I dont recall seeing ANY of those hens mated but I guess these canaries are lightening quick with the breeding. I hope they are gloster bubs cause Connie is sooooooooooooooo cute.
