Crazy Bird Lady

Well, I had my birds out for a free flight about a month ago and I noticed that a male mounted a female twice and only for a SPLIT second. So I thought I had better separate them.

Well turns out 2 of 6 eggs look to be fertile :). How cute is that. I have two fifes, one norwich and the consort all laying eggs. So I dont know who got who, but have removed all males and put up 3 nests in one cage. I spoke to the canary breeder and he said the communal cage is fine as long as the males are out and that the fifes are EXCELLENT parents and will raise the norwich if it was its eggs that are fertile. Time will tell.

I will load pics of the hens soon :)

Hey Cathy, here are a couple of pics. I candled the eggs today and looks to be at least 4 of them filling up :) So far I have 2 fifles laying, one norwich and the consort all have laid an egg or two. The mamma fife and norwich keep taking shifts but the fife is doing most of the sitting. The norwich jumps right on when the fife goes for a bite to eat. Then another fife, "smarty pants" and the cosort "connie" take turns on the other nest. :)

Ok pics of first eggs are first two eggs laid on valentines day.
pic 2 is didi on the nest with twitch watching, he is the male with the 3 feather cysts that I removed.
pic 3 is mamma fife left and smarty pants on the right. I love both those hens. Very sweet girls :) I am hoping all the bubs are hens as they are so sweet.

CBL thanks so much for the photos, they are gorgeous birds. I am amazed at how small their nests are. The norwich are so fluffy, I love their look. Good luck, hope they are all wonderful bubs

Thanks Cathy, I LOVE the norwich song, it is not as loud and choppy as the fife and it is rather cheery. Twitch was in such rough shape when he came here and to see his cysts gone and his respitory normal so that he can sing and be active is WAY more than I hoped for. He was given to me by the breeder for free because he could not breed as all he could do was lay on the perch and rasp. After the removal of the cysts, he IMMEDIATELY jumped up and flew around like he was in shock or something. It must have been like carrying lead weights on a belt and when he lost that weight, he partied it up ahahahha. He is gorgeous to say the least.
