Ok definately something going on their, may be split duster but not full duster as his head at that age would be showing MUCH more feather on the flash area, head and also the back, seems a bit odd, the feathers are more sticking out rather than copious. The back feathers seem to be feather dusterish, but I am not seeing typical duster. If u have any more up to date pics, by 5 weeks for sure we should be able to tell. The wings say yes, the head says no. More pics please. A beauty either way

as far as I know but and email from her a week or 2 ago said that the bird has a problem with his eye " its blind " but I cant see that in the pic and she will not bring the bird to me to look at . so I guess I have to wait until she sends new pics . ok 1 problem most of the feathers around his face are dirty with food so I would not go from that 2 nest mates are all violet sky - mum violet spangle , dad violet sky normal how did they end up with a green bird?????????????????????????????????????? being that there is about 10 feather on this bird at are odd I wonder if its a diet issue ??????????? I saw my first feather duster (in the flesh) on January 24, she's 6 months old and completely adorable! The breeder has a special needs cage that she rules and any time the breeder needs a surrogate mum she puts a chick in (older chick) and the duster feeds the bub. I was told her name but have forgotten, no, I think it may be Dusty but am not 100%. |

Nat, i bet that both parents are not 'violet sky or normal'" but green violet as this bird seems to have the 'teal' color on its rump. U can get violets from violet greens. So i would hazard a guess that both parents have the violet green dark factor gene. Pass may know, but I have an article somewhere describing all the violet factors. If blind in one eye, I wouldnt be surprised. Just another problem with a rare mutation. If ANY of the down feathers start to protrude farther than the normal body contour feathers, then it would be an iodine deficiency called hypothyroidism. Saw a pic of one of those as well. Either way, would love to see a pic of this bird currently
