Did you know it only costs about 25 cents in energy to use your slow cooker? This week, try using your slow cooker to make baked potatoes, and you won't be heating up the kitchen! Wrap each potato individually in foil, poke with a fork and place in the slow cooker. That's it. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 3-5 hours. The spuds emerge hot, fluffy, and soft. Serve them plain with butter, as a side dish.Or stuff them with meat, veggies, and cheese and make it an easy meal. Either way, you're saving your pennies. |

great idea Lisa...will have to try this next week! I would love to have baked potatoes that aren't cooked in the microwave. I just don't have that kind of time to wait for the to bake when I get home from work! |

When I am in a big hurry and want a baked potato, I put the potato in the microwave for about 3-4 minutes on high, then I throw them in the preheated 400-degree oven to finish off the baking, usually 30 minutes and they are done. Also, next time you are in a kitchen shop or store, look for these neat lil baking nails that you place into the potato and it will bake them twice as fast. Here's what they look like and their website. I sure didn't pay that much for 4 of them though! I think I gave 3.99 for them at the Mast General Store in Boone, N.C. I see now, these are stainless steel, and mine are cheap aluminum! Work great tho!http://www.spudspikes.com/

Yep..I do the microwave to oven thing when I have the time but sometimes I dont get home from work until 5:30-6:00 and don't like to eat that late. I have a potato holder sort of like the nail...its in one of my many drawers that's full of kitchen gadgets lol |
