Hooks & Bonuses are an optional part of the character application process. If you'd rather not bother, you can go without the bonus. So what is a hook? A hook is something a mod can use to guide your journey. It is what gets you in the game and rp'ing. It's easier to give an example, so take a look at this sample background. Wilson has lived in Azalea town all his life. He was a quiet child who was picked on in school, but he never started a fight. At age ten however, his popularity soared as he was one of the first in his class to get a pokemon. Partnered with Caterpie, the pair were the hit of the school yard and would put on shows for the other kids. This morning his mother has asked him to go to Violet City to bring his aunt the family brownie recipe. Since he has his own pokemon, he's allowed to go alone! What's the first thing that jumps out? Willy's already on an errand! That will be hook #1. - Going to visit Aunt Petunia in Violet City. Digging a little deeper, we can pull two more hooks from his background. Since Wilson has been in Azalea town his whole life, there are lots of people who know him, and not all of them good. From this, we get hook #2. - The old man who runs the pokemart doesn't like him because Wilson and his friends used to loiter there, and once tried to steal a pokeball from the shelf. One more. We'll draw on something that isn't explicitly stated in the background, but could be inferred. - Tommy is a classmate of Wilson's, and they have a mostly good natured rivalry. Tommy has a Weedle, which is the basis for their rivalry. As you can see, hooks are mainly about other people and past actions in your character's life. This is to enforce the idea of your actions having consequences. Bonuses Here's what you have no doubt been waiting for. The upside of having to jump through the hooks hoops is you can pick a bonus from the following list. * Three assorted berries (you pick two, mod picks one) * One potion * One pokeball * $200 * Good Rod This list may expand/change at any moment.
