Name: Tamsin
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Rank: Candidate and gardener
Appearance: Tamsin, as if to attest to all of the sun that High Reaches gets, tans easily and thus often sports baked golden-brown skin in the summer that fades to a more subtle tone in the winter. Her face and shoulders are also covered in freckles, which remain visible every day of the year but darken drastically in the summer. She does not blush easily, but when she does the redness is intense. However, it is easy to confuse her blush with a sunburn. Though the climate around the Weyr is not tropical, she does end up spending a lot of time in the sun because of her job, rain or shine, spring or winter, is to tend the plants growing either in the gardens outside in the temperate seasons or in the indoor greenhouses when it gets cold.

Tam’s hair is sometimes her pride and joy. Other times it is the bane of her very existence. It falls right down past her shoulder blades in dark brown waves. It can get so aggravating because it is very fine and tangles easily. She is forced to comb it out carefully while she is still in the bath, or else it will be impossible to untangle when it is dry or even still damp. When it behaves, it is nice and shiny and a true sight to behold. Her almond-shaped eyes are similarly colored, a dark brown close to black. Her face is angular and pretty symmetrical, but not traditionally beautiful. Her nose is rather flat and wide, and her lower lip is much fuller than her upper, much in the manner of her brother’s. Her canine teeth are crooked, but she rarely smiles with teeth.

Tamsin’s build is on the petite side. She never had any really growth spurts as a young girl. She grew at a steady rate instead. However, she stopped growing soon after passing thirteen turns. She has a few curves, mostly those made by the contrast of her wider hips and narrower waist. Tamsin’s sense of dress is very elegant. She has few occasions to wear really nice things without getting dirt on it (no Gatherwear while gardening!), but that doesn’t mean that she can’t wear flattering pieces. She prefers skirts to pants, but for practicality’s sake she sticks to pants for everyday wear.

Personality: Assured, friendly, polite, jolly, sympathetic, slightly devious

Tamsin is very confident for a weyrbred girl who has yet to be Impressed or even searched. It does not bother her in the least that she has not succeeded. Her optimism says that she will Impress if she needs to be. Her logic says that Impressing older will make her a better rider in the long run. Tam is very confident, and it shows in the straightforward manner that she speaks in. There are very few pauses or filler words like “um” when she is talking. She can look people straight in the eye, unless they are dragonriders. She does not look dragonriders in the eye out of respect. She is confident that she will eventually be one of them, but for right now it is better to respect them because there are so few of them to respect anyways.

To put it plainly, Tamsin is social. She enjoyed the chatter of the washrooms, even if she didn’t like the work. There was something comforting about the constant hum of conversation and the rather frivolous topics of conversation. Her easy manner makes her easy to strike up a conversation with, and her willingness to give people a chance to make up for themselves after they disappoint her. But only once. She has the ability to remain happy under most circumstances. She is always good for a laugh or two, and likes to entertain. “Entertaining” might come across as ditzy, though. Ditzy is something Tamsin definitely is not.

Tamsin has excellent manners. She had been practicing them since she was little, because her foster mother emphasized the necessity of proper manners. She never knew for sure, but thought that her foster mother was a Hold girl who was Searched but never Impressed. That would explain how her foster mother knew so much about such traditional Hold manners. Tamsin is able to take on a remarkable amount of the problems of others onto herself. She is very sympathetic to the feelings of others, and will try her best to fix people. These attempts might not always be successful.

Tamsin is enthusiastic about doing things and is far from quiet and apathetic. In fact, she is very involved with whatever is needed. She is insatiably curious. She has some book smarts, but she has common sense and a high level of retention on what she learns from other people. For example, she can tell anyone about what herb they should use from the garden to treat minor aches and pains when they do’t need to see a Healer. Since she learned to talk, her favorite word has been why, followed by explain. She is good at asking people about something secret that she wants to know in a way that will get them to answer, but Tam herself is rather secretive, and doesn’t tell anyone anything unless asked specifically.

History:
Mother: Taisiya, greenrider, 47
Father: M’lin (formerly Maburzolin), brownrider, 51
Siblings:
-T’layn (formerly Tamburalayn), brother, 27, bluerider/scribe
- Mabis, sister, 25, launderess
-Taiburzo, brother, 24, Journeyman Harper
-Mazotias, brother, 21, stablehand

Tamsin was born and raised in High Reaches Weyr. Her parents met after the Flight of Taisiya’s green Oath and the resultant capture of her by M’lin’s brown Hacanth. The pair became Weyrmates after Taisiya discovered that she was pregnant with Tamsin’s oldest brother, Tamburlayn. They decided that they quite liked each other and wanted to keep her baby. Tamsin was the youngest and final of their children.

She was fostered out to a woman of the Lower Caverns, just like her brothers and sisters were, but her parents kept in touch with their children. The woman who acted as her mother for sixteen Turns was a very traditional womanmight have come from one of the Holds near High Reaches. Tam had a more traditional upbringing than either of her siblings, learning all of the necessary social graces for dealing with the many ranks that lived together in the Weyr. This is when Tamsin picked up her oh-so-annoying habit of not looking people in the eye when she talked to them if they were dragonriders. Her oldest brother, who Impressed blue by them, kept his mouth shut and did not teas her about it, which was good for him… his sister might not have liked it if he did.

As she started growing up and wanting more independence, her parents started trying to find things for her to do. Oath, her mother’s green, said that she was not ready for candidacy yet, and her voice was only so-so, so dragonriding and Harpering were out (but dragonriding only temporarily). Her sister brought her to the washing caverns, where Mabis had been well-established as a laundress for several turns. While Tamsin liked the business of it, she found that working with the soiled garments of others was not to her liking. She moved on to work with her closest brother in the stables, but found the work with animals too… animal-y. She liked the runners alright, but never got to ride any or anything. It looked like Tamsin would end up working in the kitchens or closed in in the archives before she found something worth doing.

That was when she found the gardens. They smelled beautiful! And they were beautiful. It was summer, so the outdoor gardens where in beautiful shape. She watched the people work for a bit then found the man who was in charge, requesting a job. Amused that a girl requested a job playing with dirt, he told her to go change into older clothes and come back to get started. Tamsin has been working there for two Turns, but wondered when she will finally get a chance to Impress. At last her moment came... dragon after dragon cracked, including a beautiful gold, and she watched with envious eyes as they went to others. All of the dragons had hatched, and she was left there, standing, to wait until Oyseth Rose. The only ray of happiness on that horizon was the little blue fire lizard she Impressed not a sevenday afterwards.

Blue Admiral
Blue (0a2198)
Creative, brainy, mellow

Color Prefs: As a typical girl, I’d love for her to ride gold. She would make a fun, more responsible goldrider to contrast Alenyi.
