Transfigurations Professor
Professor Kaar sat perched a top a lamp in front of his Transfigurations class. The first years watch the bird apprehensively. Most likely they had heard rumors, but Professor Kaar still got a few gawks every now and then. He waited until it seemed no more students would arrive and spread his wings in a wide arc, letting his feathers ruffle in the air. He flapped twice then took off, circling twice around the classroom before transforming before his class back into his human form. He wore a simple brown robe with a green inner lining. In his left hand he held his wand,

He addressed his students in a deeply soft voice. “What you have just witnessed is the most complex form of Transfiguration. A process that takes many years to master and even more to perfect. Transfiguration is essentially the morph, mutation, or change of an object. Whether in shape, appearance or location, it all falls under the category of Transfiguration. Throughout my class you will learn many spells and techniques. You will also learn how the art of Transfiguration has developed through wizarding history.”

“Now,” Professor Kaar continued. “Can anyone explain what I did just moments ago?”

Valerie had been one of the first students to enter the Transfigurations classroom. She took advantage of this and took a seat in one of the desks closest to the front. Everything around her was so sureal. The large windows, the intricate furniture, the stunning ebony desk, and an amazingly beautiful hawk made the entire scene one that seemed to good to be true. Just a few weeks ago she had learned of her special abilities and now she was in a school surrounded by people just like her.

She watched as the seats filled up, which happened quickly enough, then waited for her Professor to appear and begin teaching the class. 'Where is he?' she wondered as the minutes roled by. She had heard from members of her house about the Transfigurations Professor. The older students had only good things to say about him. Valerie didn't think lateness was a very respectable trait. Just as she was about to start critically judging this professor she noticed the hawk in the front of the classroom stretch its wings in a wide arc. Oh, how she loved the magestic pose it now held.

Suddenly it took off, then after flying around the classroom it left through the door. Oh, that was disappointing. In seconds it reappeared and in a swift, fluid motion transformed into a man. What an exilerating spectical! Valerie couldn't believe her eyes. After a short speech, the man, who she now knew as her Transfigurations Professor, asked the class what he just did. She had no idea, but curiously awaited an answer, for she now wanted to know.

Kayla wandered into the classroom with her fellow students. Everything was just as she had read in the books, only more so. A large room filled with desks and light, seeming not like a classroom but a place to come and feel almost at home, thats what it felt like to her, warm and bright. It seemed almost like a room she had remembered from one of her previous houses, except the room she remembered was her parents bedroom, but very similar to this one. Her eyes fell upon a seat in the second row and she wandered over toward it and sat down.

Looking around the classroom she wondered how this could all be real, how everything around her could be anything more then a dream.
As she looked around the classroom she noticed many different types of students, but failed to notice a teacher. "Odd..." she muttered to herself. The room was soon filled with students and still no sign of the teacher. Kayla squinched her eyebrows a bit and started thinking about why the teacher wasn't there. Everyone around her was whispering, all except a few, herself included.

She noticed a hawk sitting on top of a lamp and stared at it, "Beautiful..." she said to herself. And before she knew it, the hawk had streached its wings and taken off. It flew around the classroom twice and then transformed into a man.

Kaylas eyes widened as this happened, and as he began speaking she began to admire him, oddly enough more than any person she'd known so far. She found it amazing that he could transform so easily...almost effortless...."Amazing..." she whispered, "Absolutly amazing..."

The teacher then asked, "Can anyone explain what I just did moments ago?"

Kayla thought for a moment, 'Well he transformed...from hawk to man...'

Slowly...she raised her hand to answer, hoping to know the right one.

Professor Kaar finished his speech and scanned his classroom, smiling at the various open-mouthed, wide-eyed students. He loved teaching and most of all making his job of doing so fun. He waited for a student to raise their hand and answer the question he had just asked. He figured everyone must be a little nervous, so he continued waiting until finally, he saw the hand of a Gryffindor first year slow lift up. Illiad smiled and looked down at a piece of parchment he had just conjured out of thin air. He looked back up at the girl who had raised her hand. "Yes, Kayla," he said, refering to the list in front of him. "Can you answer the question?"

Kayla lowered her hand and suddenly became very very nervous. She had no clue why but this teacher was very different, he made her want to be absolutly correct, but when he smiled at her it was so reassuring that almost all her fear was lost.

"Well..." she said sumwhat shyly, "Didn't you just....well....transform from hawk to man? That's sort of what it seemed like but...er...well...yeah...you basically...transformed...right?"

She suddenly felt very hot and very stupid.. 'Why the heck did i stammer?!? I sounded like a complete idiot!!!' she thought to herself, now turning a bright red.

Feeling horrible about her answer she suddenly said, "Sorry...sorry..." Than sunk into her seat, trying to hide her face from everyone in the room, and awaiting the teachers answer.

"There's no need to be bashful," Professor Illiad said softly, he wanted his classroom to feel welcoming. He didn't want his students to feel they had to keep to themselves. "Essentially, yes, that is all I did. I am what you would call an Animagus. I can transform at will into a predestined form. This meaning that once chosen, you cannot pick a second animal form. This practice took me years to perfect, but if you pay attention in my class, it is something you can all strive for one day. That is not to say everyone can be an animagus, for it takes a certain devotion. Not many would take the time to fail, fail, and fail again before finally succeeding."

"So, yes, Kayla, you were correct," the professor continued. "Now, can anyone tell me any of the different types of transformations. There are four in all, but if you know any, feel free to speak up." Professor Illiad wasn't expecting everyone to know all of them, but he was hoping for someone to give it a shot.

Kayla got redder as professor Kaar said the words, "There's no need to be bashful." Mostly because he had just pointed out the fact that she was red..and embaressed, didnt teachers know anything these days?

She thought about it for a few seconds and realized that he was just trying to make her feel better...so she listened on and the professor continued, "Essentially, yes, that is all I did.

Kaylas eyes widened slightly, and she grew more comfertable in the classroom. No one had taken notice of her becoming embaressed, possibly because professor Kaar made it seem like it was almost a none existant thing.

She finally heard the words she had been waiting for, the words, "So, yes, Kayla, you were correct."

She smiled widely, unable to fight it back. Maybe she would be able to answer another one of his questions....a harder one...

The professor continued on, "Now, can anyone tell me any of the different types of transformations. There are four in all, but if you know any, feel free to speak up."

Kayla racked her brain for minutes on end, then, finally came to an answer and raised her hand, more confadent now that she had answered one question.
She didnt expect the professor to call on her again but she was hoping he would.

Kayla's hand was the first up, once again. It's not that Professor Illiad didn't enjoy the enthusium, but he also felt it best to let others have a chance to answer. It seemed, however, that his class was not up to the task. Maybe they needed a little more time to familiarize themselves with the classroom and such. So while he waited for the rest of the class to shake of those nerves, he decided he would call on Kayla, who was, right now, his favorite student. She seemed smart and rather brave, and she was the only one who had stepped up and taken an active role in the classroom discussion. "Kayla," he began, "Let us hear what you have to say."

Kayla lowered her hand again, "Well wouldn't another form of transformation be polijuice potion?"

She couldn't believe he had called on her again! She was beginning to feel rather smart at the moment, but didn't let herself feel to smart because she knew when that happened, she was always wrong.
She really liked this professor, he really made her feel welcome and very smart for once! At Kaylas previous schools, the teachers always called on everyone but her, and when they did call on her, she never knew the right answer, which, obviously, mader her feel very very stupid. This class however was much different, she felt smart her, and, really rather special.

As she waited for the teachers answer, she looked him over again, she loved how his short wavey light brown hair complamented his eyes.
Kayla had a thing about peoples appearances, she could usually tell just by looking at them what they were like, and usually, things they hid.

She looked right at his eyes and began to think....'He always seems so sure of himself!! I wish i could...'

She got the feeling that he was brave, and always very upfront with things, he wasn't afraid to show who he truely was, and Kayla really liked that.

Professor Illiad's ears perked up at the mentioning of the Polyjuice Potion. It seemed strange a first year would know of such a potion this early on in their education. Professor Illiad made a note to speak with Kayla after class. For discussion purposes, however, it was a great example and he decided he would work off of it. "Yes, Kayla, the Polyjuice Potion would be an example of what is called appearance transfiguartions. It is, of course, a potion, and we will be discussing spells and the art of transfiguration, so you will learn more on that particular potion if Professor Locke decides you should. In the large category of Appearance Altering Spells there are many modifications that can be made. From size to eye color, you will learn it all."

He continued, scanning the class for anymore hopefuls. "Now, would anyone else like to give it a shot, there are still three more."
