II. Format Role playing is the participation in the acting out the role of a character personality, background, etc., that is not keen to your own, and create a story. In a play-by-post role play the game is usually written in third person. This allows the players to write in the place of their characters. This separates the player’s character from the person playing the character. The first message to post is the one person laying down the scenario, starting a story about their character and inviting others. The thread then becomes an ongoing story in which players periodically advance the plot by reading the latest reply and then typing what their character does and how the environment changes in response. These replies are often open-ended so that other players can continue. Role playing helps extend your writing skills and creativity, while also bringing people closer together who don’t necessarily live close to each other. Edited by xroce, 22 Dec 2008, 09:24 PM.

III. Rules Characters can only be controlled by the member who created it exceptions are adoptions. This means you can’t say what another members character thinks, feel, or act. Your character can only be in one place at a time. Exception are if you are in the non-storyline based forum which is located in General Role Play (here), and also but not limited to parties. This rule means that if you’re in Honolulu, Hawaii you can’t suddenly be in Houston, Texas. There character has limitations on physical capabilities because we don’t like god-modding. Be realistic if your character is wounded its unlikely they would be able to keep fighting, it doesn’t necessarily mean they can't fight but take it into consideration. You character will tire during battle, which is greatly depended on how much powerful attacks and energy was used, regardless your character will suffer fatigue and show effects from the fight. Your character’s strength is determined by your post count, though just because someone has more posts that you doesn’t necessarily mean that they will win in a fight. But if its 10 posts versus 100 post the ten poster loses. But if its 10 posts versus 20 posts the results is depended on the situation and on how the actual fight progresses. Your character is mortal. In special circumstances characters may not age, or may age very slowly and thus may not be able to die of old age. However it is important to keep in mind that everyone can be killed. As you gain more posts you will be able to acquire new items and abilities. All the abilities can be found in Shop (here). Each topic has a list of the post count needed in order to obtain a particular item or ability. When you receive the item or ability put it in your signature if you wish to use it then or later, or in your characters Storage (here) area for later use. Only items which you character has on them may be in your signature. Any items / abilities found in your signature that you do not have the required post count for will be removed, upon repeated offense you will receive a warning and eventually a ban. God-modding is not accepted controlling another character’s actions, saying that you hit someone with a particular attack or not giving someone a chance to defend themselves, saying you blocked or dodged every one of your opponent’s attacks, it is hardly realistic though some members with higher post this may be alright, ignoring the effect of fatigue, your character will grow tired and therefore become slower and somewhat weaker. Members who god mod will be warned and probably banned if continued use. Keep your posts in 3rd person. This allows the players to write in the place of their characters. This separates the player’s character from the person playing the character. Be as graphic and descriptive as you can you a lot of detail especially on the fighting. Though if your post is too graphic like sex scenes it will be deleted this forum is M-17 but younger audience might come on. When you're in the RPG Boards I.C. (In Character) posts only! Don't post out of character unless you absolutely need to, and then, if you do, type OOC (which means Out Of Character) and then write what you need say in brackets like this {} or []. NPC's, (Non Player Characters) or other characters that you play within your post, always go in a different color. The same goes if you're role playing more than 1 character. . You cannot go on to the regular role play storyline unless you have passed the battle (receiving a Good or Excellent). Failing (receiving a Fair or Poor) will result in you having to redo it before being able to move on. No role play posts under 500 characters per character allowed. We want good, long, detailed role play posts, so no posts under this amount will be allowed. This means, if you have three characters in one post, each should have 500 characters devoted to them, not 500 characters for 3 characters. 500 Chaacters is around a paragraph i think. IV. Etiquette When role playing, members should have respect for the people who are role playing their character along with yours also but limited to creative control of a characters background, skills, and physical looks. When role playing you have to keep in mind the environment you are in. Your surrounding of other people and their character, non-player characters, buildings, even the small little creatures like bugs. Remember role playing is supposed to help improve your writing skills, but when you write short choppy sentences that hardly make sense it annoys other members. Going back and rereading your post making corrections and/or getting someone to look it over before you post is helpful. Posting non-game related messages and rambling messages is considered spam and not accepted in the role playing section. It kind of gets annoying when people stop the game to say nonsense. When people totally ignore the post from the person before them because you don’t like it or something is annoying. I mean your character could be in a different place but if someone posted that their character begins attacking you. Then you say your character get in the car and drives home. That’s annoying. Posting things that your character couldn’t possibly do, or not having a weakness is annoying. Killing another players character without their say is just mean and not accepted. Plot changers who change the plot abruptly and goes down a different way then from the storyline because he doesn’t like the idea is not etiquette. When role playing keep in mind that there is a difference between what you know and what your character knows. Meaning things that you know about another members character your character probably has no clue about. Keep past experiences from other forums out of the role play section. Its annoying how there’s a new storyline but you are already best of friends without even knowing each other. Edited by xroce, 19 Sep 2008, 01:49 PM.
