I don't know how many of you remember about Kara's vision problems. She's always been legally blind without glasses, and had a problem with the eyelid on her left eye. Over the last few years, it has gotten worse. They wouldn't even consider surgery to try and fix it until she turned 15. Well, she is 15 now, and had her doctor's appt today at Lebonheur for consultation about the surgery.

She will be having surgery in a few weeks. They are supposed to call us in a couple of days with the surgery date. Her vision is 20/200 in her left eye now. There is no way she would be able to pass her vision test to get her learner's permit. She is disappointed. We are hoping and praying that the surgery will help to improve her vision in that eye a little. There is hope....

The doctor said that as soon as she is old enough, we might want to see if she can meet the qualifications to have the laser surgery done.

My vision was 20/375 in both eyes, uncorrected. I had lasik eye surgery about 7 years ago. IT IS A MIRACLE SURGERY and I recommend it wholeheartedly!!! She is too young for it now because your eyes need to have stopped changing. But, it is definitely something to be considered down the road.

I will keep her in my prayers!

I got the call today. She goes in for the pre-op tests Wednesday, and her surgery will be done Friday in Memphis at LeBonheur surgery center.

Well, we didn't get to do the surgery today. When she went in for the pre-op appointment, they did a test on her eyes to see how much tears her eyes were producing. Hers weren't producing enough for them to do the surgery the way they originally planned.

She has a referral to another surgeon.... the operation will more extensive than we thought it would have to be. She's not looking forward to this at all anymore! I'll update when we get to see the other surgeon.
