Today was the first day of winter bowling league. I signed them both up (the younger two) to bowl in Future Stars again (ages 8-13). Steven's bowling has increased and he is more consistant with his shot. When league started I could see my son not too happy. I asked him what was wrong and he was mad his team members were new bowlers and young bowlers, you know Steven is old at the ripe old age of 11 lol. I sat down with him and told him he was a new bowler once and he needed to show them sportsmanship and get rid of the attitude or I would pull him out. He seemed to get better and started giving the high fives and cheering on his team. But he still had a pouty look. As I was doing my job I noticed the activities director talking to him. She then came up to me and said "Steven is too good to be in that division, next week I want to move him up". So next week he will be bowling with the big kids and most of them are 17 and 18 (maybe a couple younger than that). Steven wants to move up and his average is competitive with that age, the youth director wants him to, but I am not to sure about it. I think that he will start putting too much pressure on himself to keep up with these teenagers. He said he wants the competition. I guess we will wait and see how he does.

Today as I was working and walking back and forth thoughout the alley, I was watching the scores of the older kids and Steven was bowling right with the majority, if not better. His high game today was a 161. He is ready but he is very competitive. If he has an off day he is hard on himself ( like mother like son .. lol). He is excited about it, Destiny is happy her brother is not bowling in the same division. So I guess it is a win win...I hope.

Sounds like he's where he should be. And competition never hurt anyone. But if they get too rowdy, you might consider whether or not he's too young for them. On the other hand, his brothers are that age as well and he may just be able to work with the age difference.

Steven can dish it out and take it too. He has been trained well by his brothers. My only concern is since I usually work with the younger two groups, I won't be able to watch him bowl as much. Also graffic talk might be a little too much for him but luckily most of the teenagers know me and my kids. Hopefully they can tone it down during league. On the most part they are all a good group of kids. Shoot they are bowlers, we get a wide diverse group. Computer geeks, skaters, jocks, grunge look and the all american. But all in all they all focus on one thing...bowling. Steven will just be the smallest one in this league and so far he is just Steven..... he is in a catagory all by himself.... LOL

Today was the first time bowling with these kids. Steven did just alright. I think he was a tad bit intimadated. He is on a team of four and not surprising he is the youngest. Two of his team members are 17 and one is 19 and built like a line backer. Steven bowled in the 140s. Not his average but he stayed right around with his team members. He liked being with the bigger kids and Debbie, the youth director, kept working with him, giving him tips. I think he will do just fine being that he has more competition than being with his age group.
