Yesterday while at the vet's we looked at three pups needing homes. I list their drop-offs on Freecycle and we've had a lot of success finding homes that way. One of the pups has a very sad story. Her name is Brownie and she's a five month old Pitbull mix. She was brought in with her left back leg broken. Owner said she'd been hit by a car (she was 12 weeks old at the time). Leg was so badly broken it required a pin. Vet got her put back together and the owner took her home. Brought her back a few days later and the front left leg was broken. After the cast was put on the owner refused to pick her up or pay the bill. She's been at the vet's ever since. I don't for one second believe that pup was hit by a car. She's very timid and has big sad brown eyes. I think she was abused. The cast was taken off her front leg day before yesterday and she's lost some muscle in the leg, but that should improve with time. However, they expect her to develop arthritis in both legs early in her life. Don and I sat up talking late into the night last night. He is ready to go get her right now. He feels like she will need a special home and that we should be the ones to give it to her. What do you think? I'm a little concerned about introducing another female into the pack we already have, especially since she's an older puppy and extremely shy (she is being socialized by the vet tech and does well with the other dogs there). I told Don we would call Monday to see if she'd found a home. Edited by Ravenlost, Aug 28 2008, 08:05 PM.

Paula, Without hesitation I would bring her home to live with you and Don....if that's possible. I'm sure she'll adjust fine to other females in the house. Jamie (Westie) is very timid and shy. From the day we brought him home from Special Pals he sticks like glue to Aggie. I don't believe for one minute that Brownie "accidently" broke her other leg. Owner refuses to pay or pick up the dog for services. He truly loves his pet, doesn't he????? Good luck with your decision. I hope Brownie finds a good, loving home. She very well deserves it. |

Paula, you know what to do! Animals come to you because they know they'll get the best home possible! |

We'll decide next week I guess. I have a feeling that the vet tech, Heather, will end up adopting Brownie. |

That just breaks my heart knowing that people are out there hurting and abusing animals. Either way it sounds like Brownie will get a good home. Either with the vet tech or you and Don. |

People who abuse animals should be put in jail for life. Animals deserve care and affection. As for your newly adopted pup, what about the dog that went after Bonnie? Can this situation be controlled? That would be my concern. |

The dog that went after Bonnie gets along fine with other dogs. In fact, her nickname has always been "Mother Molly" because of the way she mothers new pups we bring home. Bonnie was always the instigator of conflicts between the two. |
