What a fun weekend; Terry Fator

Last weekend we drove 12 hrs each way just to see Terry Fator (America's Got Talent winner) perform in Reno.

If any one gets the chance to see him perform GO. He had us laughing and crying. He just signed a 5 year contract at the Mirage in Las Vegas, so I'm sure we will be making a LV trip in the next 5 years.

Anyone who wants to see what I'm talking about, he will be on the MD telethon 9:00 PDT Sunday. The only problem is he didn't say AM or PM.

It also didn't hurt that when we got to our hotel they upgraded us to the fancy new suites. Only problem was that when we went to check out they had charged us $70 in fees for the refreshment center. We hadn't used anything on it. Seems the stuff has a sensor on the bottom. If you pick up anything to look it charges your room. They did take off the fees.

Amazing how they keep track of what's in the courtsey bar. If they offer a key, always say no. That way you won't get charged. And I am glad you had a great time!!

Sounds like fun. What hotel did you stay in? Was it on the main strip (Virginia Street)?

We stayed at the Peppermill. They just finished a huge upgrade. They put us up in the Tuscany suites. The bathroom is as large as my bedroom and has a flat screen tv so you can soak in the huge tub and watch tv.

We have stayed downtown at the Silverado and at El Dorado. I tend to stay up late to play slots and last time did not feel safe by myself as I played too close to the doors and had a couple from off the street come in and hassle me for money. I went up on the mezzanine and quite a few drunks were roaming up there.

I've only been in the Peppermill a couple times. They do have a nice buffet. It is a little far off the strip so I haven't gone there all that much. My favorite place to stay (besides my moms apartment) is Boomtown. It isn't actually in Reno...it is in Verdi. It is a great family hotel.

The last time I was in reno for the bowling tournament at the stadium, the kids and I took a walk down the strip and there seemed to be a lot of young, rough looking kids roaming around. Needless to say our walk didnt last all that long.

There is always something going on in Reno. A lot to see and do. I love the Hot Air Balloon races. If we are up there at that time we stand at the back of my mom's apartment complex and have a perfect view. If I remeber right the big rib cook off at the Nugget is coming up. That is always a lot of fun.

When we were up there the beginning of this month we took a drive to Virginia City. It had been a long time since I made that drive and forgot what it was like. It scared the you know what out of my 11 year old. The steep cliffs. He kept his head covered the whole way up and all the way back down.

We find that going up the back way to Virginia City is a lot better way to go. It's not so steep and twisty. Plus at the bottom is a great candy store. This was the first trip to Reno that we did go to Virginia City. The train museum is new but wasn't open when we went in early March.

That's the only route my mom will take there. I hadn't been in so long I forgot there was a back way. By the time we arrived my 11 year old was so freaked out, he just wanted to head back to grandma's apartment. He has always been afraid of heights. I wanted to go into The Bucket of Blood Saloon (kids weren't allowed) and also explore the old cemetary. We did go into one saloon/casino with a game room for the kids (I can't remember the name) and checked out a few shops. The next time I go,it will be without kids.
