I was in the house for three minutes and as I was heading back out the front door to check on the kids I see a police officer pulled to the side of the road...my side..talking to Destiny.

In my front yard was a lemonade stand where the kids were selling lemonade and ice cold water bottles (hey it was almost 100 degrees and construction was going on down the road).

In my yard were my two younger kids, three children I was watching and 4 neighborhood kids.

The first thought that hit my mind was oh no, what did Steven do. I figured he was clowning around .

I open the door and the officer waved to me and drove off.

I called my daughter over to ask what was that about and she said............................................................................................
....................................................................................................
...........................
.............
..........
.........
.....
....
...
..
.
.
.
He just wanted to donate .50 to our fund. (helping out with the cost of the instruments)

My heart dropped when I saw him out there. We are a rural side of Sacramento and we don't see too many officers around here. I really thought for sure that Steven pulled something.

All I can say is ....WHEW!!!!!!!!

LOL...what did you think he'd done? Put nails in the road so people would have to stop at his lemonade stand?

oops I left out the part in which this group were making water balloons.

They have plans on setting up again tomorrow. The lemonade went like wild fire so they will need to make more but they still have almost a full case of water left. The best part about this whole adventure is the kids are beat. I feel an early bedtime tonight.

Good for them! I think it's great that they want to help earn money for their instruments. Shows they are really dedicated to their music.

Don't tell Steven that I turned down a music scholarship to Ole Miss (I got married instead...thought I knew everything when I was 17).

Mums the word on that. Mr. Barnes has been pumping the kids up with the scholorships offered for music. Steven is dead set on having three instruments down by jr high. They are a lot of work and lots of practice but so far he is really into it. Destin has already made it through the first few pages of the begginers flute book but is going to need quite a bit of instruction from Corky. A completley different instrument then the clarinet.

Yes it is, but the fingering for flute and clarinet are similiar. I started flute when I was 10 and once, in high school, had to play clarinet (band director had left my flute at the band room). It was much easier to go from flute to clarinet than I would imagine it would be to go from clarinet to flute.

I was second chair flute all through high school (my best friend was first chair) except for one stint playing cymbols for the drum section during football season my senior year.

She pretty much has the fingering down but still struggles with her blowing. She keeps getting dizzy.

OH I called that craiglist ad and it was a very low quality trumpet. I told the man what brand of instruments the kids have played so far (all have been yamahas),. He told me that the trumpet he had was a kinstar..never heard of that one...and is probably not the quality of instrument the band teacher will work with. But thanks for looking for us. I am renting one today and hopefully something will come along later. Steven is suppose to have the notes down before Monday.

Yeah I also thought that was nice of him. After counting out their cash box and needing to purchase more cups, lemons and candy (they are selliing that for 3 pieces for .05) they profited almost $20. Today is even warmer so who knows how they are going to do but they are hooked on running their own business. Last night when their dad took them out to buy more cups, Steven walked up and down the aisle looking for the best deal for their money . This is a great learning experience for them ( learning about economics) and has been keeping them busy..not sitting inside playing video games or watching tv.
