We just got her settled in for the day. She went out to potty, then we flushed all the wounds and put antibiotic cream on them. Bonnie is still refusing to eat so we force fed her with a turkey baster! Don just gave her the pain pill and antibiotic and she is resting in the dog crate we have set up in here. She will most likely sleep all afternoon.

One of the sutured wounds on her chest looks like it may be getting infected and she has a wound on the badly damaged inner thigh that looks like necrosis has started. The vet will look at those tomorrow when we take her in to have the drain removed from her thigh.

Poor Bonnie has a very long and hard road ahead of her. We're just sick at heart that she has to go through this.

Try some Little Cesars dog food for little dogs. It is the only way I can get my Claire to take her pills right now. It actually smells good and she might just go for it.

Has her vet given you any tips on trying to get her to eat something?

No, he just said we HAD to make her eat.

The turkey baster was a little messy this morning, but Don found a large syringe that works much better. If we squirt food into her mouth she will swallow it.

Well, I am happy to report that yesterday evening Bonnie decided she wanted to eat! She ate a few bites several times during the night. Today she ate half a can for lunch!

When we got up this morning she had chewed the end of her drainage tube. Fortunately today was removal day. We took her to the vet first thing this morning and the drainage tube was removed from her back inner thigh.

That leg looks awful. Necrosis is setting in and she will have surgery on Monday to remove dead flesh. It smells awful too, so I was happy when Dr. Slocum changed her meds. Instead of flushing out the wounds now we have some red liquid to sponge onto them. We've used it before and it smells very medicinal...a smell I much prefer over rotting flesh!

The vet also drew blood and did a liver/kidney check because I was concerned about renal failure (she's been peeing very dark brown urine). Her liver enzymes were elevated, but her kidney function is fine. Dr. Slocum said the elevated liver enzymes were to be expected due to the massive bruising and muscle damage she suffered.

She is resting right now as it was a taxing morning for her. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts as she still has a long way to go.

Thank goodness. She sounds like she on the way to recovery. My heart goes out to here. I cry over these things. It's so hard to deal with a pet because they can't tell you what is wrong. Only that they know you love them.
