Dustin's graduation party was a huge success. Everyone had a great time and the last guests didn't leave until 11 pm. A 10 hour party. So needless to say I am beatI feel like I just ran a marathon because my legs are rather sore and stiff. It was all worth it though because everyone had a great time.

However my day started off rather stressful. As I was walking out onto the patio yesterday morning I walked through the playroom and noticed water next to the hotwater heater. I continued out the door to find a huge puddle on the patio next to the water heater door. I had problems with that thing a year ago and Jay got it working again. He hasn't had a whole lot of time to look at it but did shut it off this morning to stop the leak. Which means we are not going to have any hot water all day. Man I sure hope he can fix this thing. I don't want to have to purchase another one. Not when I have to purchase a trumpet and flute by next Monday. Yep that is when Corky wants to start working with the kids. Monday, Wednesday and Fridays all summer long. I can't complain because he is doing it at no charge. Keep your fingers crossed that I can find a trumpet and flute at a great price.

Geesh, maybe you can drain it and find the leak and plug it up. My dad just went out and bought a new water heater because he came home to water everywhere. They run about $350 and Lowes has a plan that you can buy it now and pay it off in 12 months without any interest.

Good luck!

At least it's summertime...much easier to go without hot water in the summer than it is in the winter...in the summer you can jump in the pool instead of taking a cold shower!

That is what I have been trying to do. It has three valves, I have all three turned off and have the drain open but the drain still continues to have a steady stream runnung out of it. Jay stopped in during his lunch hour, but couldn't do anything. Tonight he is going to try to cap off the valves and see if maybe they just arent shutting off completely. I am hoping he can fix it. I really don't want to have to purchase another one. I am wondering however if the water heater isn't the problem but something to do with a pipe in the walls. The puddles seem to get worse and my whole patio by the door is more flooded the more we use water (washing dishes, using the sink. flushing the toilet and Dustin took a shower a cold one at that LOL). Jay wouldn't even listen too me with that idea and says it's the water heater. I just wish I could stop the leak. I am not looking forward to my next water bill since we are on meters.

Ugh, I hope he can find time to fix it. We had plumbing problems that messed up our water heater and were without hot water for about a week this past winter. I would have rather done it in the summer. There was a leak underground under the back hallway. Had to have it jackhammered up. It was too much for poor Kaydee.

I was wrong it is the water heater. Jay sealed up the bottom rim, where he found a few holes, with a plumbers putty...aqua mend. He wants me to wait until tonight to make sure the holes sealed before refilling the water heater. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he fixed the leaks. He is apprehensive just because it is an old appliance.

I am panicking because I only have a couple more days to find Steven a trumpet. I lucked into a flute yesterday for Destiny. I called a bunch of pawn shops and found a yamaha 221 flute for $149 and it is in great shape. That was a steal. I am hoping for that kind of luck with the trumpet. Corky will only work with students with good instruments. Not ones purchased from walmart, target or cosco, He feels if you purchase one of those you will have to spend quite a bit of $ getting it upgraded to a band quality instrument. I didn't realize flutes were so expensive, I was really happy with my score. The trumpet on the other hand, the best deal I can find is $500. I can't afford that, no way no how. It looks like I will have to rent one. Now before anyone says maybe the kids should just go without, they have such a great opportunity with Corky willing to give them lessons at no charge. He is an awesome band teacher and all his time he puts in at the school is volunteer. He makes his living by giving private lessons. You wouldn't believe how well he can get a group of youngsters playing. Steven is a natural when it comes to music. Him and Destiny can read music easily but Steven can also play by ear. I can humm him a song and it only takes a couple times until he can repeat it on his clarinet. Corky's goal is to have Steven not only play the clarinet and trumpet by mid year but also introduce him to bass clarinet and sax before he starts jr high. Corky told me about all the woodwind and music scholorships available. Obviously my kids education has always been my first priority and I want all 4 to go to college. So far so good since the first two are already going (Dustin started his first summer class yesterday and Zach is starting his 3rd year soon) and I want the younger two also attend, By the time they are old enough for college the tuition is going to be outrageous. I am learning the hard way with Zach and Dustin. All I help them out with is books and each book average is $100+. The more scholorships the better.

Please keep us in your good thoughts that I wont have to replace the water heater. After purchasing the flute and trying to save $ for books for the older kids I really don't want to have to put $ out for the heater. I am so tired of things not working out for me and going wrong. I have been down and upset because nothing seems to go right. My mood has been terrible.I want to be able to provide for my family. We don't have to live high and mighty but I just want the basics so we can be comfortable, it seems like I just can't make that happen and I am feeling very down because of it. I hate living in CA because the cost of living is so high. Steven and Destiny have been so cute and are trying to help out however they can. The made $30 yesterday by selling water bottles and soda (left over from Dustin's party) and they are going to set up their little stand again today. Their goal is to at least pay for half their instruments. Thats a lot of water bottles and soda...lol But at least they are learning if you want something bad enough, you need to work for it.

Well I am throwing in the towel. The hot water heater won. We went to fill it back up and at first there was no sign of a leak. We stepped into the back yard to fix a screened gazebo that the wind blew one pole loose. We step back into the playroom and hear a crackling sound. The next thing we knew water was just pouring out of it. I looked at Jay and said "Hmmm, that's not good" and just started laughing. It was either that or bawling. he grabbed a couple towels which made it even funnier since the water was just pouring out. I turned and headed out the front door to turn off the main water shut off valve. I guess it is time for a new one. I am now keeping my fingers crossed that one of Jay's plumber friends will come across a used one that one of their clients want to get rid of. So there is still a good chance I won't have to pay any $ out of pocket.

I cleaned up the mess and he took the three kids to their bowling league. I had to put myself into a new frame of mind. I guess we can go without hot water for the time being. I have been using my 18 quart roaster oven to keep water heated. I just need to keep telling myself we are just camping with luxuries. Hey I guess it could be worse.

Call your local Habitat for Humanity and see if they have a water heater. You never know what will show up in those places. Also check for a scratch and dent at Lowes or Home Depot. They may have one that they would sell you at half price because it's not "perfect". And let me know if you need anything.

Also post that you need a hot water heater and trumpet on Freecycle.

The kids and I went without heat during January and February one year. I told them we were camping out in the house and they had a ball! They don't remember it being a hardship at all.

Thank Sara but I am good. I am renting Steven's trumpet today and when something else comes along I will turn the rental in. I am rather pleased with the flute so I am going to keep calling around to pawn shops.

I am leaving the water heater up to Jay. He has promised to make some calls today and put the word out.

Paula, I don't think Steven finds the no hot water thing too much of a hardship. I thinks he rather enjoys not having to take showers.Dustin on the other hand doesn't care for this situation. He is a two shower a day type of person. Bowls and buckets of hot water just isn't the same to him. However I am getting tired of his complaining. Oh I can't wait for you to see the puppy Destiny has been making for you. It is cute.

Sara, look for an e-mail tomorrow. I have a question regarding Dustin's behavior. It is a bit on the opposite side on what I am use to. And with the situation with his gf parents, I am concerned. I try to send it tonight. I am watching 3 extra kids tonight and supervising the beverage stand. Ohh what fun.
