This is silly; I know I shouldn't be worried

Destiny has been having a lot of back pains and breathing problems due to her brace. She is out growing it. At her last check up with her orthopedic surgeon, he wasn't ready to change her brace since it has worked wonders on her back. The warmer it gets the hotter she becomes and has a hard time breathing and cooling down.

This morning she left on her gold panning field trip and won't be back until tomorrow night. She was excited when she left but I have some concerns. If she becomes too hot she needs to either take her brace off or loosen it, which I know she won't do around her friends. Both 4th grade teacher are aware of the problems that can occur and have seen first hand when she overheats. However they have never dealt with it, they just always send Desiny to the office for the office staff to handle. I know I shouldn't worry but something feels wrong. SHe was excited about this trip and couldn't wait to get to school this morning, I on the other hand was apprehensive. My daughter informed me last night that she gets to stay in her teachers cabin, which is good so she can help Destiny with her brace but like I stated before, she has never realy dealt with it. I did show Mrs. M how to put the brace on and how to tighten it, and that it can't be too loose or too tight. I personally handed her teacher her pain medication, but I don't know if Destiny would inform her teacher. I shouldn't be worried but for some reason I am.

I know it is silly I am so worried but again something is really bothering me and I am not sure what it is.

You are not being "silly" - you are being a MOM. It is our perogative to worry about our kids. Make sure the teacher has your cell phone number and ask for hers.

Gold panning ? Sounds fun !

Is there any way you can call and check on her?

It really is a great field trip. The classes sleep in cabins, learn how to gold pan and get to keep their own pan, three meals are provided plus a swimming pool is near the cabins which the students get to enjoy. Steven had a great time last year when he went.

There are two parents who are chaperones that I have been friends with since Destiny started kindergarten. I have their cell numbers as they too have mine. I will give one of them a call tonight just to check on her. I just wish this uneasy feeling would go away.

She is home now but had a lot of pain on the field trip. Maybe too much sitting, I don't know. Her teacher told me that Destiny was almost in tears as lights were being turned out because of her back pain. She asked my daughter if she wanted to go home, which she didn't, she just took another one of her pain meds. From what Destiny said she had a great time but just wished her back didn't hurt so bad at times. If she sits on the floor or on chairs without a back rest, she ends up in pain. Since she has been home she complained her back and arm is hurting. She really needs a new brace. I think once they (doctors) replace it she will be more comfortable again. Her next appt. is for the end of June so I am going to push the issue of casting her for a new brace. She just isn't getting the support from the old one anymore.

All in all she had fun, she is tired and asleep on the couch but at least she made it through the whole trip.

I'm sorry I should have posted this morning after talking with her teacher last night. I have been busy with my nephew, Christopher, today. He has been upset, just not himself. He and his gf (whom I just love) stopped by not once, twice but three times today. The first two times he seemed just not himself and the third time veronica told me what was bothering him so I talked to him about it. I feel bad for the boy but at times all I can offer is just advice to the 22 year old.
